Is There a Particular Reason behind All of these Game Collaborations?

It used to be pretty rare (I think?) to see collaborations between different fighting games. It seems like it is starting to become a trend with all these X vs. Y games. You have Star Wars in a Soul Calibur Game, Kratos in a Soul Calibur and Mortal Kombat game, Street Fighter X Tekken (and Tekken X Street Fighter), Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and presumably Soul Calibur V will feature guest characters from another game. It seems like this kind of thing is becoming a trend for fighting games in the recent age. Not saying that it is good or bad, just saying.

*Quite frankly, if Capcom is feeling so generous with collaborations then would they please give me my Capcom vs. SNK III lol.

Though some may claim it's for the fans, I think it's a mix of things. Not only do you open the game/genre up to others who may not routinely dabble in it, companies are able to garner more publicity for their respective company/game/characters. So, in the end, I think it's business strategy.

Yeah you're probably right. I don't think that many companies have enough confidence in their product (other than BlazBlue and Virtua Fighter) to put out a stand alone fighting game in this generation without some sort of business strategy or special attraction attached to the game.
