We are living in a world of information chaos. Its source is the Internet - this is where rumours are made, this is where people are whining because their character has been nerfed or because Mitsu is overpowered. Among people covered in this chaos, however, there are players who are thinking straight and who, instead of spending hours as their alter-egos (trolls) stay in their labs, learn, train and eventually reach the top level. Such people should be looked up to and deserve some attention.
In the Interview Time! I will be interviewing various players from all around the SC world. First episode's guest is the winner of last week's MLG Fighter Arena, Hawkeye.
Di: "Hawkeye" - because of Hawkeye from Avengers?
Hawkeye: Actually.....Yea. Lol... Growing up i was a huge comic/anime junkie. I loved reading the avengers comics and I REALLY, enjoyed watching The X-men tv show... My favorite mutate was Quicksilver because he was able to move at lighting speeds. Kinda like my main character Natsu. Lol. But i decided to roll with the name Hawkeye because it was short and everyone knew who he was.
Di: Did you play "Captain America and the Avengers"? Hawkeye was a playable character and the game had also a 1v1 fighting mode (not that bad).
Hawkeye: Actually No. This is my first time hearing of that game. Lol. Im ashamed now. Lol
Di: You should definitely check it!
Di: I've heard that you've been around since SCIII days but I hadn't seen you until MLG Winter Championship. What are your SC origins?
Hawkeye: Well competitively, I had came into the scene around the dying time of "Soul Calibur 4". But I've been playing the series since i was 10yrs. Back on the ps1 days, when the series started as "Soul Edge(Blade)". I still remember playing Hwang and Taki in those days.
Di: Let's head back a few weeks. If you hadn't placed top 8 during MLG Winter Championship, you would not be able to participate the last event. How did you like the first tournament?
Hawkeye: I can only speak for my own experience at MLG Winter Championship... I had a blast back in Ohio. The tournament was ran sooooo professionally. Everything was on time. MLG is simply, if i can say, "The shit".. MLG is supporting our community like it hasn't been Sonera before. No one will truly understand how much they care about our community until people actually came out to their events and witness first hand, how much gold "Soul Calibur V" is sitting on with MLG supporting it. I love MLG. Point Blank.
Di: I am pretty sure that the three players people were talking about before Fighter Arena were Keev, Kayane and RTD. I am pretty sure you were not considered one of the best players in the tournament. Were you confident about your performance before the event?
Hawkeye: Keev, Kayane, and RTD, have been putting in work to get where they are today. So if i wanted to be on their level, i would have to work even harder. After making it to grand finals at Final Round 15 and then getting my ass whooped in a convincing victory by my boy Omegadr , i knew i had to up my game. So, i did my homework on other players. Trying to find they're playstyle, their habits, and overall their ability to adapt under pressure. I went into The fighting arena more confident than I've every been in any tournament ever. Now, IM THE 1ST EVER SPRING FIGHTER ARENA CHAMPION!!!
Di: Do you think that switching from 1.01 to 1.03 was important for you and the other 7 players?
Hawkeye: In my honest opinion, Version 3 of Soul Calibur is the best thing to happen to this game. It shows who was the running away players (turtles) and who was the in your face players(pitbulls). The patch was important to all players of this game. Because a lot of players playstyle was damaged. I like to think of it as Namco buffing/nerfing the players... LMAO. Players like myself got a HUGE buff. Now you have to out play me, instead of running from me. I love you Namco.
Di: There's been a lot of madness around the MLG Fighter Arena poll but I've heard that the matches actually took place (in both SCV and MK). Could you share some details?
Hawkeye: Well if you are speaking about the MLG Prize Fight , then i can't speak on that topic. MLG agreement.
Di: What upcoming events are you going to take part in?
Hawkeye: My next event i plan on taking part of will be UFGT in Chicago, MLG tournament out in Anahiem, California, MLG online tournament if i can count that one and finally Evo out in Las Vegas.
Di: Last but not least: Do you think SCV 1.03 needs to be patched again? If so, what would you change?
Hawkeye: This only being my opinion of course, but I believe one more patch is needed.. Only for a buff for characters. Lexia needs more damage on some of her moves. Her 44B needs more damage because compared to Mitsurugi's 4B, her damage is just hilarious. Also her 3B needs more damage. Raphael just needs to be redesigned. Lol. But overall Namco did a great job on Soul Calibur V. I love this game.
Di: Thank you for the interview and keep up the good work with Natsu!
