I can't hang

DO NOT TAKE ONLINE SERIOUSLY AS A GAUGE OF SKILL! I lose all the time to random scrubs and most of the time it's not my fault. Lag not only changes if something works or not it also forces you to play into bad habits since some of the more "pro" options wont work with delayed inputs. When you want to test yourself online, don't focus on wins and losses. Focus on if you were doing the right tactic to counter. Was the opponent actually hard to read or was it predictable and lagging in?

Dare i say come up with VALID excuses to why you win or lose. Really think if you would've lost offline and adapt and practice where the places you failed are legit. You have to have a selective eye when playing online. Despite the out come of the fight you can tell who's a better player simply be strategy and the way they handle the character, even if they get masacred. If they get hit by everything then they might just have lag issues and it may seem like they have no defense, so you have to look for things to give insight on the matter.

Also, a good player does not play one way, they adapt and adapting may mean playing like crap to counter someone doing i as well. Got a scrub who just attacks and never blocks and it owning you? Happens to me all the time...till I swallow my pride and mash BB the ENTIRE round. I won 3 matches with X yesterday by doing this. No other move or even blocking...just BB over and over. Wouldn't work on a good player, but it was the smart move to coutner a tactic. Every player has a weakness, exploit it don't just play one strategy.

It's online, anything can happen, plus there are soo many players online you never know who you run into and how well they've been playing. You just need to keep practicing and playing as well as learning what works, what doesn't work, and what to do in certain situations.

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it. Kowtow, I'll try to make it to some event soon; if for no other reason than to learn and expand my game. I have to remind myself that this is my first fighting game and I started playing in June, so I have much to learn. Ivyfanboy, thanks. Since I posted last night, I played against the AI and also on line a few bouts with the thought that I DO NOT CARE about the win or loss (bear with me) but rather to adapt to the opponent and respond ....to think. ...to fight a good fight win or lose. While I know that winning is the key, I need to refrain from going through the same patterns simply because they have worked in the past and, just as you are saying, adapt to the fight at hand. When I started to do that the wins naturally followed. The beauty of this game is that you absolutely are a better player if you use your gray matter a bit. I understand I will get defeated by skilled and non skilled players alike online. I also understand that I want to limit those times so I will heed your advice to adapt and keep learning. I was so damn frustrated last night I wanted to twist and crush my controller. Most often I can rise above the emotion. Occasionally I don't :)
