[04] Fighter
Hey guys, new to the forums and looking forward to posting. Anyways, I was like 7 when the second Soul Calibur came out and didn't play it that much because it was owned by my cousins. Then SCIII came out and I got it for the ps2. I didn't really know how to play and pretty much mashed the hell out of Kilik. SCIV came out for the PS3 and boy did I suck at that game. I tried to learn combos and stuff with Yun Seong, Vader, and Zasalamel, but I was still terrible. Finally, SCV came out and this time around I wanted to actually try to get decent at the game.

I started off with Patroklos as my main because he was relatively easy to play and I had a little bit of experience from story mode. I bought the guide for SCV and I was glad I did because it really did help me learn the basics and mechanics of SCV. The character guides were also very helpful for things like frame data and strategies for everyone. Throughout my SCV career, I have switched between many characters, trying to find a playstyle that I enjoyed. Due to the absence of the three characters I played from IV, I started with Patroklos mostly because of his ease of use and his cool stance during battle.I found Pat to be a bit lackluster pre-patch, so then I moved to Astaroth because of his ease of use and big damage. I mained him for a bit then moved to Lexia because her offensive playstyle attracted me. She was fun to play, but then I realized how much I missed Setsuka and moved on to APat. From there I practiced for a while (like 2 days lol) to try and get some just frames down. I mained him for a while, until my cousin constantly destroyed me with his Pyrrha and Natsu. I went back to regular Patroklos so I would have an easier time fighting against her. A bit later the patch came out. I liked Lizardman from SCIV, but didn't want to play Aeon because "he was soo bad." Hearing that this patch buffed him, I decided to try him out. It didn't work as well as I hoped, because he ended up being too slow for my tastes. For a while I switched back and forth between my previous mains, but still kept Patroklos as my go to character.

I stayed like that for a long time. Then I decided that Patroklos's incredibly offensive gameplan was too aggressive for me. So I tried out some more characters and Maxi caught my attention. He was still an offensive character, but I felt like his range and strings had an edge over Pat's t-rex arms. So, for a little while, I mained Maxi. The most enjoyable part was winning matches in ranked simply because people didn't know his strings. But, for every 5 bad players, there has to be a good one. The veterans of this game beat my face in as I played Maxi, most of them interupting or JG'ing my strings. And now, currently... I'm playing APat once more. I just miss Setsuka too much and doing just frames makes me feel badass. Right now i'm trying to master JF Twister. I can get the first one, but I can almost never get the second twister. (I get it like once every 500 tries)

So that's my Soul Calibur Story. I mostly play online with my cousin and I don't go to tourneys (I would get destroyed), even though lag free offline is really nice. I play on psn and my username is hoe_a_moe_a (great name right?). I'd like to find people to play against and have a good time. I also like getting advice from others on how to improve my game. I met KrazieCD and played some matches with him and he gave me some good pointers in Apat's strategy. Anyways, it's good to be here and hope to play with you all.

Welcome to the loony bin. Don't be shy now, everyone that bites are given muzzles to protect you as well as themselves so there's no worrying allowed >:)

I'd like to make a few obvious comments if you don't mind...

1: Stick with a character if you truly want to hang with the better players and not get steamrolled constantly. There's really no one in the entirety of the world good enough to main Edge Master and really win any serious tourneys; it's like what Bruce Lee said. "I don't fear the man who practiced ten thousand kicks once, I fear the man who practiced one kick ten thousand times." The meta game is deep enough so that mastering one character requires a phenomenal amount of time and effort, let alone two or more and not mastering a character will pretty much mean you keep on getting mauled by veteran players unless you improve your fundamentals to superhuman levels...which is probably a lot harder than mastering just one character. Oh, and don't counterpick if you want to be an even remotely competitive player---it's always reasonable to assume a foe that gives you trouble will know the character you're picking as a counterpick better than you to because they're a threat :)

2: I'm off my high horse now, I promise! There's some subforums you may want to look into...

Stick around. You'll be glad you did. Or regret the day you signed away your right to sanity. Who knows?!?

EDIT: Oh, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise---*ALL* characters in SCV are competitively viable. It's just a matter of overcoming their flaws without losing any sanity in the process.

Hey Wandrian! Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I was switching so often to find a playstyle that I liked and now I really want to stick with Alpha. I'm spending lots of time practicing JF twister. I can get it in the open and after stuns like CH 33B, but I can never get the second twister. I also drop combos like crazy and I have a difficult time against steppers, but it'll come eventually haha. Also diggin' the Bruce Lee quote haha. And yeah, I know everybody is viable. I guess it's just that for some characters it's more of an uphill battle. Anyways, thanks for the tip and it's nice to meet you!

Hey there Pocky Yoshi! It's a pleasure to meet you too!
