Help with an external hard drive

So, I was formatting a hard drive the other day when the cord got pulled in the middle of it. Now the hard drive is not being detected in Windows Explorer. I'm wondering, is there anyway to fix this or is it a dead drive now? I'm not too tech savvy but I can follow instructions if anyone can help. Thanks.

It wouldn't show up in Windows Explorer because you never established a working file system. Did you check the device manager?

huh ... that is kinda bad news. nothing happens when you disconnect then reconnect it? ... I'm guessing it's usb. sounds silly, but have you tried to see if your xbox can read it ?

I assume you're using Win 7 since you've mentioned Windows Explorer and if you are try the following steps:

1) Click on Start
2)Go to Control Panels
3)Administrative Tools
4)Computer Management
5)Storage
6)Disk Managment

It should list the drives that are connected to your computer and if you spot the one just right click on it and see what options are there.

I don't remember how the rest goes but when I bought my new PS3 slim I took out it's hard drive in exchange for a bigger capacity hard drive and I use the PS3 drive as an external drive to connect to my PC and since my computer doesn't display the PS3 hard drive I have to use the steps above to enable it.

Note: when you format hard drives make sure it's the type of format that windows can read which is both NTFS and FAT32 if you format the hard drive for Macintosh OS it won't read on the exploerer but I think the methods I emplore may work.

I know how to fix this... going from above: try going to Disk Management and right click a drive and select "Change drive letters and paths".
