Hawken

Still something feels lacking when I think of a proper "mechwarrior" like game. Would wish they get over all the legal crap with that franchise already and move forward to make a modern true Mechwarrior title.

You're gonna have to call up the Robotech people about that one. :P Still, considering how close that one mech was to the Tomahawk from the Robotech series its pretty easy to see why they would be upset about it.

Robotech.... meh. Robotech was edited from three different Japanese anime shows - Macross, Southern Cross, Genesis Climber Mospeada. Although I grew up enjoying the series on TV early every morning, it wasn't until years later I found the originals and liked them better. Anyhow, I thought this legal battle between Mechwarrior (which was part of the franchise of FASA's Battletech, a D&D {Dungeons & Dragons} -like dice role playing game) and the US distributor and license holder for Macross/Robotech -Harmony Gold- was resolved a long time ago. I remember the early Battletech data reference books showing mechs that were literally copies of mechs you found in Robotech (Macross) but called by other names. This is what got them in trouble in the first place, so they drastically changed them. Well I guess times must be tough for the company and they still want a cut... $$$.

It was resolved in a way, I think Mechwarrior just had to agree not to use that one particular mech again. There was a trailer for Mechwarrior 5 a few years ago that had that mech in it and the Robotech people sent out a cease-and-desist letter to everyone that had shown the trailer and thus it was gone again. Havn't heard anything after that.

*Here it is. The mech that caused the problem is the one that you are inside, you can see it at 0:21.

Here is the Robotech Tomahawk-

I've heard someone say that the original Battletech miniature game ripped off a lot of designs from other games so who knows what is gonna happen.
