Great job, Hates, and Idlemind. This should be shared all throughout the FGC. This would certainly motivate me as you've captured the true essence of what going to tournaments is all about. It's not just about winning, or doing your best, or seeing how you measure up, it's also about going to some place new that you've never been to before. It's about being on your own, it's about growing up. Regardless of how well you place in whatever tournaments you compete in, you will always remember how much fun it was to be there, the people that you met and friendships you developed along the way and most importantly, the fact that you did it by yourself.

This is true. I know some of the people here do some networking and whatnot with the SRK guys and the stuff, the good stuff, that should be shared actually needs to be shared.

Seeing as how I'm trying to get involved with the SC community again due to SC5 and my recent vid postings, I'll chime in.

Competitive gaming is something I've always loved, whether it was playing Mario Kart on SNES or Halo 1. The only people I had to compete with though were my siblings and sometimes even my dad. Once I learned to drive and had a job, I felt that it wasn't enough.

My first tournament was some time in '02 or '03, when SC2 was still in arcades. I had only played SC1 and though I was super scrubby, I loved the game and wanted to try and test my skill against others. So I travelled an hour and a half to Sunnyvale Golfland where they had the Norcal qualifiers for the National SC2 tournament. Lack of knowledge/experience topped with a major case of tourney nerves ensured a quick exit from the tourney. Nevertheless, I still played the game for hours on end when it was released on consoles.

However, a local anime convention and Evo 2k4 both got me into the Norcal scene. I've made some great friends this way and hope to make more at the various SC5 events I hope to attend.
