Full-page ads are really obnoxious.

For a person who claims to know so much about the internet and computers and stuff, i'm surprised you even see ads. I have not seen a single one, and for a very simple reason.

Man, I'm real impressed by AdBlocker plugins. Will you be my friend? You're so cool.

Sorry, I'm not a thief like you, I don't use AdBlocker/etc because when I'm getting free content, actually leaving them unblocked to support the operators is the least I can do.

Huge problem because of adblockers... means that we get even LESS uniques a day on ads. Celestein, thats the one thing I agree with you on... I hate adblockers because you are essentially diminishing a website's ability to stay online.

So essentially you're just really bad at managing the site's advertising then? Of course this is just taking your word at face value...though when I see ads for SOAP, it's certainly more believable. Must think we're all scrubs.

It's not like I don't have experience in this field, you should be able to get a lot more and are not capitalizing on it. I don't use Adbrite so can't speak to their settings, but if it's like any of the other ad carriers I've used, you should be able to increase that amount significantly by manipulating keywords and trying to get the advertising actually targeted at the audience.

If you're just putting an automated ad up with no consideration, you're just throwing money away that could be used to support the community, instead of having to rely on organized begging.
Real targetted advertising does not happen overnight. Google Adsense does this because its a SHITTY service. If you buy adwords, you don't have good control on what website's your ad shows up on; it shows up on random sites and you waste your money. Not to mention, Google tends to close accounts within a week, without paying its publishers for that earned time. Adbrite is REAL advertising, and we have only been using them for 2 weeks. It takes time for advertisers to send in quotes for a website. So I stand by with what I said before... you don't know what you are talking about.

Like I said, I can just casually browse threads and count 30+ stars, are these people former premium members who never got their status revoked? cause otherwise it's hard to believe this.
The STARS are permanent, unless I run the "update ranks" script; which I rarely do. Even if you are no longer a premium member, as long as I dont run the update ranks script, you keep your star. The fact that you don't know this means that you don't know much about vBulletin; vBulletin is a VERY processor intensive forum. Yes, you can get a VPS for less than $40, but is it a good VPS? For SSR, we had a $30 VPS from GoDaddy (SHITTY host) and that crap ran worse than I've seen some shared hosters. Besides, we average 100 users on at a time, not 20-40.

So I say again, you don't know what you are talking about.

I'm not sure what's more obnoxious. "Stealing" a few cents (this is a very gross estimate) a month from a website that was using just banner ads for over a year, or bitching about how you have to see advertisements while simultaneously trying to display some sort of moral superiority about how you are willing to support the operator of a site by viewing their ads.

Well I will freely concede that I didn't know you'd only been using them for 2 weeks, it's not something you pay attention to until the full-page ad with sound pops up to make you look.

I agree that AdSense sucks, but that's not what I meant by keywords, I mean manipulating your meta-data so that ads added from automatic queues are relevant to the audience so you earn more. If you're already making about $1/day from AdBrite, that's only going to increase over time as the ads get more targeted to the audience. As I said before you SHOULD be making at least $30/month for this level of traffic...which you are. I however was under the assumption you've been using them a lot longer. BRB buying soap.

The fact that I don't know that? What post did you read? Clearly not the one where I specifically mentioned that scenario? I'll quote myself again, even though you already did, cause you seemed to have missed it.

Your defense is basically that I should magically know that you're too lazy to update ranks? I'm not a mind-reader here, I'm going off the only public indicator I have as to the level of membership.

Maybe you should post those figures like most responsible non-profits do.

I'm glad I managed to teach people a new word, obnoxious is on it's way back!
There's a difference between advertisement and intrusive advertisement, which is the core of what I'm bitching about.

Stealing is immoral, which you freely admit to doing. I don't steal, which means yes, I have moral superiority. I don't need to claim it, it's there.

Your claim of what amounts to a logical fallacy is a fallacy in and of itself(ad-hom/straw). I.e. A murder speaking out against murder doesn't make murder less immoral. Since you're essentially claiming that since I support advertisement, I shouldn't bitch about intrusive advertisement. Because it's obviously a black and white issue(another fallacy).
