Sorry for my ignorance, but isn't Alakazam a little too slow, most dark types have decent speed if I am not mistaken.

to be honest, i have no idea. i have never raised an alakazam because i didn't like how fragile it was.

Nope.
Alakazam's really fast,faster than Gengar.
Base speed is 120, and 150 when Mega Evolved.

I think what you're talking about is Sucker Punch,which is a Dark type attack that's 100% to hit first if the opponent uses an attack move.

mawile is my main beater on my team, i love it! however, it sucks when it's not mega but at least you get the intimidate off before mega evolving.

Alakazam can easly outspeed lot of Dark type. is a relatively "fast" pokemon. Problem is if the Dark type has sucker punch you are mostly dead. Same happens agaisnt a ghost with shadow sneak. Some other priority moves could kill you too. Is basically a glass cannon.

Don't even need a Fairy type, just swept a team of 3 dragons with Dazzling Gleam Roserade. Bees knees that move.
