Diablo III

So how epic is this game? I wont be able to get it until the middle of june. :(

I see my bro playin it all the time and it looks fun as hell! I got to play a couple of the first quests with my wizard but I didn't get to make it too far.

So I've been playing my brothers copy.

The bad.

Game is one copy, one account like wow. Seriously? This is one of the biggest reasons I hate PC games these days. In the D2 days you could create 50 bank accounts and keep your stable separate from everyone else in the house. Now everyone shares the same limited number of character slots, stash space and GOLD is all in one big pool across characters. All great ideas, so long as everyone in your household ponies up 60 dollars for their own copy. I could understand not letting two people play the same game at once on one key, but this level of cash mongering is ridiculous.

Always online status. Blizzard pulling servers down for unscheduled maintenance? Fine. I'll just play single player. Right? Wrong. You can't play the game at all when they decide to take their servers down, which really lends to the feeling that you are a child being allowed to use blizzards toys when they decide to let you. Worse still? Lag. When you're playing by yourself.

White items have no value. At all. They don't even sell for shit. There is no reason to pick them up other than to clog up your inventory. I don't even know why they exist other than to complicate crowded fights where you want to punch swarms of something that look like sandbags made of meat spilling fire everywhere in what you suppose to be their faces only to have shitty twohanded staves flipping relentlessly through the air like popcorn kernels in a hot jet popper.

Two handed weapons. Wtf. They serve no purpose at all. AT ALL. The damage is always worse, WORSE than their one handed equivalents, not to mention they're slower and equipping them deprives you of the stats you'd get on an offhand. If you're playing a class that can equip a shield or a casting off hand or dual wield then by all means DO SO. Two handed weapons here are a complete and absolutely pointless joke.

The action bar. I need more slots than that guys. At least one more. That's just not enough.

The good.

I like the new level up system. Being able to respec and experiment on the fly means you're free to have fun and never pigeon holed if you run into an enemy that's giving your build trouble. Ever run a charge bolt sorc in d2 and run into a lightning immune? Sucked balls, lemmie tell ya. Well no more of that shit. And stat points, while I do kinda miss the way you could make strange variant builds the devs never planned on I also hated having to worry about them. Just how much spirit does my pally need? Have I already screwed him up? Do I need to worry about using up one of my akara visits? Having to never ask myself these questions is a welcome relief.

The storyline is more involving than ever. With increased amounts of townsfolk chatter, villains calling you out, story cinematics and companion bantering the story feels more a part of the game than ever and actually seems to make an attempt at providing the game with compelling narratives and reasons for your actions. Who here can really remember why the hell we went to radamant's tomb or what the horadric cube had to do with shit anyhow? Did you really give a shit or have any idea who duriel was when you ran into him? I like that your companions have personalities or that classes have personalities, it might be taking a note or two from biowares homework but it just helps you feel a little more attached and the first time you play you might just make yourself go a few minutes more just to see what happens next.

Claudia Black is the spider demon. I know she speaks maybe 90 seconds of dialog but any time I hear this lady's voice I can't help but smile.

You still click things, they die, then candy pops out. Only now everyone gets their own drops when a boss dies. No more need to break your mouse because the sorceress took your bulkathos wedding band or the Druid felt he was more deserving of your buriza.

You can play as a male or female of any of the classes.

Scrolls are gone, forever. No more need to buy and juggle an inventory full of blue and red scrolls for mundane micro management. Town portal is a spell you cast whenever you like, you don't have to lug gear back to town to find out what it is because all blues come pre identified and yellows can be ID'd with a one second cast spell. No more need to carry keys or antidotes either. Speaking of which...

Inventory tetris, vastly minimized. Having to manage so many items of differing shapes and sizes and values was lame. To paraphrase a great barbarian, to hell with it.

While we're on the subject, charms are gone. Good riddance. They were a bad idea from the start.

On the fence about.
The auction house. There be rares here. Lots of them. And they can be had for cheap. There is seriously never a need to have your character not decked out in yellows from head to toe ever again. That said, the ah moves stupidly fast. Take ten seconds to weigh the pros and cons of an item and it's gone. Some douche just bought it to post it back up for fourteen million gold.

Diablo 3 has gotten bad reviews all over the place. People are going back to d2!...
People? What people? People who weren't obsessed over a 14 year old game are now suddenly flocking back to it in droves like something out of exodus? No. Stop. The metacritic score is 88%. Way more positive than negative. Don't fanboy out because a few other irate members of your fanatical fringe agree with you. For all it's faults d3 is still the better game. Any child can win that debate with three simple words. No. Act. Three. The Kurast jungle is nowhere to be seen, don't get me started on how very beautiful a thing that is.

D3 has made a ton of great decisions. The new skill system is bitchin.

Lol! Even if D3 was a bad game(ITS NOT) people would not go back to D2 in meaningful amounts. Look at Marvel 3 and SF4 lol. People would just bitch about how they hate it and still play 7 hours a day.

Ghengis_John's review of the game is very correct. It gets rid of many of the clumsy systems in d2 for a streamlined, easier to access game, which I think makes it more fun. The hardcore d2 players will, of course, go back to d2 because of the (in my opinion, needless) complexity, but I think d3 is much more enjoyable.

Also Zekki, my Demon Hunter isn't max level yet (only 39) but your post made me realize how freaking sweet Fan of Knives is :D
