Demigod - New from Gas Powered Games...

I've got the beta patch, but I still see rampant connection problems. One of my friends is still forced to unplug his router to play the game, despite setting all of the recommended port-forward ranges. Another friend simply can't connect to my computer in the lobby- each of us can connect to every other player, but never to each other. It's maddening and inexplicable, and almost everyone that I've talked to has similar stories.

That said, the beta patch was a big step up... The problems were even worse before that. I am optimistic that everything will be get worked out eventually, maybe in a month or two.

Jaxel is right, the beta addresses ALL the net code with the game. your issues will be gone tonight.

Lies, if anyone is still having connection problems after tonight's patch... they didn't set up their router correctly. Assign ports 6100-6200 on UDP (NOT TCP!) to your PC's IP address, add the game to the safe list in windows firewall and your virus scanner firewall, and you will never have connection problems. If you still have connection problems, then you fucked up somewhere.

The patch that got released today is the SAME patch that ZDamned and I were using before today. We NEVER had any problems with it. The advantage of course is that we were playing on the beta servers with other players who also had the beta patch. Generally this means that the players we were playing against understood their hardware and were able to handle their ports and nat traversal issues.

Now that the patch got released to the public today, we've been having trouble starting games.. WHY? Because now instead of just the technical geeks being in on the fun, EVERYONE is playing with the new patch; even the fucking retards who have no idea how to open ports or disable firewalls. And unfortunately, it looks like the retards out-weight the geeks 5 to 1.

So... the patch works great... the players don't.

That's not necessarily true. The patch has problems... it did before, and it still does. Even if all of the players have assigned their ports correctly and have given the application proper permissions, the game lobby becomes very unstable after more than 4-5 people join it, and the thing is still full of bugs that can prevent peers from properly connecting to each other. Which isn't really that surprising, considering that Stardock has rewritten a lot of the matchmaking code in the past two weeks.
