Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate

Part of me really wants to pick this game up. I've only played one DOA game. It was temporary though so I don't know too much about it. The only thing I remember was that I mained Eliot (he became an instant fav idk why). If I do get this I was wondering what your impression on Eliot's fighting style is. Is he hard to use? Are the fighting styles in this game that much different from each other at all? I'll stick with him regardless, but I was just wondering is all.
 
Forgive me for not looking through 199 pages of thread to get an answer to my query. I'm thinking about getting this game to try out, I'm just wondering how the online play is. How's the skill of online players? Will a really sucky player (like I would be) be able to find similar skilled opponents? Will there be a possibility to learn, improve and continue to find opponents to match my skill? How is the onlie on a purely technical basis? Godlike, laggy or something in between?

Bonus points for guessing: How would I like this game, seeing that I really like SC4, kinda like SC5, don't like Tekken at all, somewhat like Mortal Kombat, and saw something in DOA4 but never really bothered to learn it? (Yes this is an impossible question to answer, try and guess away if you like)

... Maybe. Online is rough, from what I've read. Aside from that, it's closer to Tekken than SC, but has a simpler control scheme.
