it's an easy to learn, hard to master kind of game imo. but tons of fun.

Not too steep IMO but I pick up things fast so I can't really tell you.

DOA is an easy game to get into.
Once you understand the whole Rock, Paper, Scissors system. You can pretty much grab a character(check in with the movelist first, of course.) and run with it. These games aren't really execution heavy so you can focus more on the match and your opponent. Which is where the tougher stuff comes into play. Mainly mind game stuff involving said "RPS" system. (critical bursts set ups, baiting holds, etc...)
