Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate

As a consumer i MUCH prefer unlocking characters to paying for characters as DLC, especially when they just disc locked them and resell them later. This method is a far better practice than DLC
Don't be so naive. DLC is not an alternative to unlockables. DLC get's it's own budget separate from the game and therefore won't exist if it can be sold. It doesn't matter if it's made before the game is released, it still cost extra money to produce. The only reason it's a bad idea to put it disc locked is because it pisses people off and is a bad PR move(Capcom doesn't ever learn do they?), not because there's actually something wrong with it.

SF4 or BB/GG style update games that add a few characters and rebalance the for 40-60$ are the alternative to DLC.The good thing about DLC is that you can cherry pick the characters who you intend to play and save some money. The good thing about SUPER style updates is that it's cheaper for people just getting into the series.

If Mila is a boxer I will probably play her. Taped hands make it seem pretty obvious. Hair cut reminds me of Vanessa.

Not necessarily true. I think that there is something incredibly wrong with it, they are basically cutting out pieces of a complete picture and repackaging them to sell you. Because as companies are learning, people will pay just about anything for a few more trinkets or for things that are required to have the whole package. And really i dont know how you can say it costs extra money to produce when they dont have to do anything other than lock them to the disc in order to sell you the code to have access to it. There is very little time or effort put into disc locked content, which is why people are so offended by it in the first place.

I dont know how you can try to put a positive spin on it by saying "The good thing about DLC is cherry picking who you want", when you should have access to all the characters and items regardless. Which is what they're doing, they're making you believe you have a choice or that you're getting deal, but with disc locked content they are just screwing you out of things that you should already have access to. Like i said, they're cutting off pieces of an already finished product just so they can resell you the stuff you need to have it complete.

But we shouldnt get into the DLC argument, since it can be a touchy issue. I think what they're doing might be good for business, but it greatly hurts the customers to the point where it might be detrimental to them.

Uhhh what? They have to actually MAKE the content you know. That requires money, and it's money outside the budget of the normal game. If they couldn't sell it to you they simply would not make the content. Just because it makes it onto the disc for convenience does not mean they would ever give it to you for free.
