Yeah, I introduced Xernuht to my offline scene here. He and I were trying to figure out how to play Rig properly but can't seem to come to grips with him. Akira is a different story altogether but I think it's just a matter of getting the timing down on his comboes.

cool. good to know i'm not the only one getting a DOA get together going on. i have a SoCal DOA get together every weekend.
 
Rig sort of relies on frame traps, whiff punishing and launch combos. Some of his good stuff includes PP2KK, 66K, 8K, 6H+K, 3P and others. Lots of players tend to mash with him, but it's usually not a good idea. He can pressure really well in flamingo/crane stance, where the bulk of his pressure comes from.

With Akira, I see a lot of players abuse his 5P and 2P, though he's really supposed to poke with his elbows and remain completely on the offensive, it doesn't reall work on hold happy players. He's difficult to get a handle on, not because of his combos, but because he's fighting style and execution are fully committed to the risk of each input and move. He has a few unlisted moves worth trying too.

What's kind of hilarious is that you just described how I was trying to use him... minus the launch combos. That said, I think I'm going to invest some more time in using him.

That said, it'll be a cold day in hell before I willingly pick up Akira again.
 
A really easy CB setup is 6KK4P P+K. From there you can go into 33K launcher into KK4KKK for an easy combo. Just note that getting that CB isn't guaranteed and requires a counter hit.

Rig's PP2KK is guaranteed on counter hit and serves as a useful launch combo.
