I'm surprised no one posted about this sooner. Guess it's up to me.

Capcom is packing Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge and Darkstalkers 3 for download on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in early 2013. Development is being handled by Iron Galaxy, who last worked on Marvel Vs. Capcom: Origins and Wreckateer for Kinect.

The package costs $14.99 and includes:

GGPO-enabled online game play
HD graphical filtering with multiple viewing options
Replay sharing
Spectator Mode
In-game achievements
Challenge/Tutorial Mode and an unlockable vault filled with concept artwork, videos and more.

Love how there's two Felicias on the poster.

FYI - and I've probably said this before - I have no confidence in Ono/Dimps/Capcom in making a compelling sequel to Darkstalkers. After the repeated and player-unfriendly revisions of Street Fighter 4 and the extreme monetization of SFxT (perhaps the most blatant attempt at nickel-and-diming players ever), Capcom has little chance of convincing me that Darkstalkers 4/Darkstalkers Are Not Dead will be any good.

That said, I am interested in Resurrection. With all the enhanced features including a supposed tutorial mode and GGPO online infrastructure, it looks like it will be a worthwhile purchase. While I did resolve myself that I wouldn't be buying any more fighting games until Blazblue Chrona Phantasma, I'm rather tempted to pick this up as I've always enjoyed playing Darkstalkers.

So how about you guys? Interested? What are your thoughts on the upcoming Darkstalkers 4? Are you planning to pick up Darkstalkers Resurrection?

IMO, it's easier for them to mess up when they're starting something new, however for an old franchise, as long as the top players speak up and break the spirit of the past games down, then everything will be fine. Take a look at MvC3, as much as everyone who isn't a Marvel player loves to hate on it, how the game turned out to be is exactly what was described in fanatiq's front page article on SRK - a high risk game where getting touched results in you losing your entire team. No surprise then that he genuinely loves the game.

For a 4th Vampire game, the same needs to happen. The Savior community needs to speak out on what it is that makes the series unique. Now, coming from a Savior point of view, that's the sheer speed of the game. The game is fast, really fast, as in faster than Marvel at high level play fast. The other hallmark of Savior is it's balance, it's one of the few 2D games where a bottom tier like Lilith can take a major tournament in Japan (albeit helped by the Japanese single-elim format which reduces the impact of bad matchups).

I agree. I definitely like the speed of the Darkstalkers series, and I would like to see some mainstay components to the series return, albeit perhaps, in simpler form.

Push blocking for example, needs to come back and in a simpler input form. I would like the way EX moves worked to return. And the push on the console versions for simpler and easier inputs to execute moves to continue. I wouldn't mind a cap on the super meter. And I don't mind a super freeze as long as the supers are fast and not cinematic like those in SF4. I would prefer something like Blazblue's speedy supers or even UNIB's.

Other things I wouldn't mind is an easier to understand target combo/chain system and definitely not the one from SF4. And I'm not sure if I would care if Dark Force ever returned.

I'll buy a Darkstalker's sequel simply because of my positive experiences with Vampire Savior. It was fun, that balance was amazing, and Morrigan is my favorite female video game character of all time. But i'm scared Capcom might fuck us over on content MVC3 style.
