Critical Edge: A Brief History of Banning...

You can get rid of the idea of copying save files. Ever since Sony added trophy support, you can't just copy a save file from one account/console and use it under another account/console which would be the scenario at tournaments. That data you copied would then be useless.
Umm, no. You CAN copy the save file for SC5, it is not locked like it was in SC4. You can copy the save file to any account/console. The only difference is, if the accounts don't match, you wont be able to earn trophies with the save file. The file itself, with all it's unlocked characters and CAS will still work.

As much as people are denying it, this IS ALL ABOUT BALANCE. You can say its about logistics to running CAS at tournaments, but as I've already stated, the logistics have been worked out. They are no longer an issue, they are a non-issue. A TO has to copy save files to consoles anyways in order to unlock all characters, so why not let them copy a save file with sanctioned DJ on them as well?

There are only two remaining reasons why people are against my ideas. The first is balance. People are hearing that DJ is broken, and the European communities want him banned. How do we know he's broken? Isn't this too early to be determining bans based on balance? Especially when Namco themselves say they want DJ playable in tournaments and will most likely rebalance him through patching.

The second is obviously the split rule set. The difference this time is the split ruleset is self-imposed, so it can be more properly administered. The split rule isn't even a forced thing. When it comes down to it, according to the rules DEVIL JIN IS BANNED! The only difference is that we are encouraging locals to unban him so that we can more quickly assess his tournament viability.

If it only takes a month to see that DJ is broke shit, I'll ban him immediately from my tournaments. But by having this split rule, it gives me the opportunity to unban him the moment a "balance patch" is released by Namco. But if people are really against the idea of a split rule... then a single rule is needed. The ban on DJ because of logistics is IRRELEVANT. The ban on DJ because of balance is ABSURD. So if we need a single rule, the single rule would be that he is LEGAL.

However, too many people will throw a fit if DJ is made completely legal. The idea I came up with was a method to limit the disadvantages from either side. Still, everyone is spouting off on how it doesn't matter, we should just do what EVO will do, which is ban DJ. Well Namco is a sponsor to EVO; how much influence do they have? When I told MrWizard that I wanted DJ banned from EVO, he responded with "gl with that ... you don't decide rules for EVO". What if DJ ends up being legal at EVO?

Lol "gl with that..."

From what've seen outside the minor percent of this community raging...outside the walls of 8wr People are really interested in this fighting style. Hey I welcome new players any given Sunday...SW chars did bring new players to SC, maybe not tournament players but a member is a member.

Give it some time DJ hasn't done any actual damage to the community anyway.

Even if DJ is banned, some folks will use him online. Those folks might discover some stuff. Not every online warrior is a terrible player.

That said, it's unrealistic to expect that DJ will bring in new folks who will stick around. People play games competitively for the game, not so much the character.

If DJ ends up legal at EVO, and it's clear that the community finds this wrong , I can see the game not doing well at EVO due to folks not showing up. Then the SC community will be a large vocal community that doesn't show to EVO- and will get thrown in the Smash ghetto. (and this is what they did to Smash)

There are four possible scenarios:

You ban the character, and he's ban worthy. You get some trolls asking for him to be legal, but no one cares.

You ban the character, and he isn't ban worthy. You get some drama, but 99% of folks will deal. You lose a few players.

You don't ban the character, and he isn't ban worthy. Eventually he adds a small amount of players, but fairly insignificant- DJ wouldn't be that popular.

You don't ban the character, and you should have. It's the Hilde arguments all over again, and SCV suffers a similar fate to SCIV competitively, and mass drama. This is by far the worst option.

My rule on banning characters, if I was in charge:

A "canonical" character is legal unless they are proven broken.

A "non-canonical" character (stuff like CAS's,guests) are banned unless they are proven unbroken.
