Critical Edge: A Brief History of Banning...

Coming from a more Capcom centric competitive background, I'm quite surprised at how so much more ban happy the Soul Calibur community is. Beck there, we've only ever really banned one character - ST Akuma (well, 2 is you count the HDR Akuma). Other things, characters, combos, glitches, etc. we've always allowed no matter how dominant they became unless, they were something that caused the game to crash.

Maybe a stupid question, but why didnt Namco just put the actual Devil Jin character in the game?
DLC down the line is the most likely answer.

and then we look like ban happy tards. specially when most of the country has yet to play the game.

Are you serious right now? Within the first few minutes Mega Man and Pac Man were announced, you had top people in the community (and those running EVO) banning them from Street Fighter x Tekken tournaments already. Cole and both the cats were also banned the moment they were announced. And their announcements/bans started from almost when the game was first announced.

By delaying the ban, it just gets maddening. Console exclusives or 'created' characters haven't ever ever been a norm before, why start now?

This is primarily an extension of our general rule against allowing CaS characters, again for logistical reasons. Most of the history in the original post is outright fabrication.

Of course, if we do get official DLC we'll still probably end up revisiting the notion of whether or not DJ should be allowed due to balance issues. I'm trying to think of a good analogy for 2D games...Imagine, say, Eddy from GGXX dropped into the middle of SF4, largely unchanged. It's at least cause to pause and debate whether that's a good idea.
