Champions Online

Ho Ho Ho!

I had no intention, though to see my long lost Tulsa native post well... I had to say something.

How close is it to City of Heroes/Villains? I played Villains for a while, but after their 'Random Instance Generator' bored me with the same three templates (OH BOY A SEWER, A BUILDING, OR A CYBERCOMPOUND!) I just straight up quit.

Its leagues beyond CoX, in my opinion. The combat is a LOT more fluid. Its very fast and the animations are a lot better than CoX. Those randomly generated buildings aren't there because all of the questing happens out in the world of the game. You only go into instances like those to fight an arch villain. Which - almost all of the ones I've been too - have been scripted fights. So it's pretty fun.

Because it's all quest best and the combat is fun - the game doesn't feel grindy at all like CoX. Thats what pissed me off about CoX - all the fucking mob AE grinding you had to do to level at a decent pace. Well, all of that is gone(As far as I know).

The character customization is MUUUUCHH better than CoX. I've made some pretty cool characters. You can basically change everything - even the way the hero stands when he's neutral. There is even a "beast" posture where your character will run around on all fours.

The powers in the game are pretty good aesthetically. Im still a bit confused(being the idot that I am) how everything works. You can mix power pools and have a caster that is all strength based, which is kind of weird but it's still kinda cool cus its possible. Your character isn't consigned into a specific role.

Theres a LARGE assortment of travel powers in this game that are pretty fucking cool. You have the staples as in Super Jump, Flight, Teleportation, Super Speed. But in this game you can get variants on these like Rocket jump, Jet pack flight, Fire flight, fuckin hover disk. And best of all is Swinging, like fucking spiderman dude. ITS FUCKING AWSOME.

Crafting is pretty good in this game too. Theres 3 specialties - Science, Mysticism, Arms. Each one builds the same stuff basically, but has different stat focus'. I haven't delved much into this, but I like what I've seen so far.

One thing I haven't really done is the Hero Games PvP. Which is an arena style mini game system with diff types of mini games. I did it once, thought it was OK. Maybe once i understand more how powers work and stuff, I'll like it more.

Been milling it over for a while now. Been trying to get more info on abilities and how they work together since it seems a little daunting. But im definitely gonna look into it
