Appearance can be important and must be a factor, sometimes in spite of facts. If it appears that 8WR is more willing to ban someone once they paid their dues and became a premium member it's reasonable that less people will be likely to pitch in their twenty bucks. I'm sure nobody wants that.

It has nothing to do with being more willing to ban someone. All that $20 buys you is the ability to add .gifs to your profiles, make a custom title, and go into the Premium forum and say things that you won't get moderated for. When you're on the rest of the website, though, you're abiding by the rules regardless of how much money you've donated. I refuse to let people "buy" the ability to go unmoderated via being a premium member.

I think people may suspect some "dominance humping" from time to time but I've never been a close enough witness to a ban to judge it's legitimacy.

People suspect that literally every time someone gets banned, or probated, or even warned. You learn to ignore it because honestly, the only time it's ever going to be legitimate is when I put on an SS outfit and start rounding up all the casuals and sending them off to Chelmno.

So, it'll basically never be legitimate.

I just know that, for some reason, only the people I like get banned. That may say more about my taste in friends than the politics of this site.

I've known and considered HRD a friend longer than you've been signed up on this site. At the end of the day, that doesn't change anything, and playing favorites only leads to larger problems down the line.

When someone wants to be a smartass, they better be a bit more tactful.

Something like "you mods better do your jobs" in a public forum wouldn't be great idea since something formal and polite like "Um mods, can you please take care of this?" in a PM is more appropriate.

In general the second quote is tedious to do, but at least the tone can come off more polite and vague to get their attention. Sure we joke around and trashtalk, but the minute some person doesn't find it humorous, you better elaborate, apologize, and then....well trashtalk to tease.

My peeps Synraii, RedDjinn, and HRD are blunt and sometimes take certain things too far. However, they're generally good peeps I can sit and have a good chat with. I enjoy their company.

FenrisZero is well........fun for watching an ego rise and fall. Despite the fact I think he's silly and pompous, there's some good in what he does. Gives me a reason to be competitive.

Regardless, I treat all of them equally, but there's one thing I prefer to not do and I see this quite a lot: Go out and attack other peeps on their profiles, go too far on insults, shove opinions down others throats, and sometimes make peeps unwelcome.

Sure some peeps do deserve it, but I generally think a nice online sparring to make each other salty is the best cure for instance. Long ago, I wasn't always liked because peeps were cynical. I understood this and played with whoever. It took lots of sparring just to get peeps to warm up to me since I developed a resilient skin to take harsh gossip and remain friendly with them.

It's gotta be tough for you administrators and moderators. You all gotta play parents. While rebeling is fun, someone like me can't just bite the hand that feeds me.

Thx for the thorough response. I hope you understand I was only trying to say that people's perceptions might not align with the reality of why or how people get banned. I wasn't making any allegations. If a reason for a ban isn't specified I could see how the community could get a little uneasy and wonder if they're next. Maybe I don't know where to look but when a ban happens all I ever hear is vague speculation through the grape vine. A concrete example of why a ban occurred might put minds at ease. I may see an example and think "I'd never say anything like that" and know I don't have to worry. Or, I could see it and think "That could be me" and decide to straighten my ass out a bit.

Alright, I'm just thinking out loud here anyway. Not trying to change procedure or tell people what to do. This will all blow over and be something to chuckle over one day anyway.
