AN article I found.

Wii? Ps3? 360? Why should I care what spend their money on? It doesn't affect me.
Actually... it does... Dreamcast was an awesome console... should you care that no one spent their money on it? Of course, because no one spend their money on it, the console died, and those who did spend their money on it got the shaft.

Eh. Depends on what you wanted out of it. Arcade perfect Naomi ports, VF, Skies of Arcadia, Giant Gram etc were worth the price of admission IMO. Saturn died, but it still cranked out Guardian Heroes, Dragon Force etc.

Really, all the advocacy on the net wasn't going to shift units.

its word of mouth. every bit helps. Keep in mind a good chunk of console owners have their parents buy their console. And if you grew up in a household like i did, you were only allowed 1 console. Also it sucks when your the only one with a certain console. the biggest reason i had a n64 back in the day was cause my cousin and my friend down the street had one. Sure the PS1 seemed better, but i didn't wanna be left out.

Yeah, but the larger fight's usually won by money and/or licenses. (Which is what generates the word of mouth) The writing's usually on the wall for one system vs another well before kids on the 'net start squabbling.

In the DC's case, it was just a holding pattern for developers til the PS2 came out. E3 2000 was a third party wasteland on the DC. The thing would've had to sell like mad (not possible since Sega couldnt' produce enough systems to meet demand if it had been there) to draw serious developer support. Konami barely touched it. EA avoided it, Namco put SC out then walked away.... The system was basically Sega and Capcom.
