Aion - new MMO out 9/22

^ this = da troof

ffxi had the best system EVAR for people that just got tired of playing their class ... each character starts with 6 available classes to choose from can can unlock an additional 14 through quests ... at any point you can return to your moghouse (apartment) and change to a different class ... you have to level them all separately so when you switch to a brand new class it's kind of like starting over, but not really (you're still the same toon with the same money and stash of gear in your box. So one toon can be several different classes in different situations depending what the party needs or situation calls for ... why can't other game steal that idea and do it right, also? i dont get it

Also, I dislike talent tree class systems... If I wanted to be a healer, and only a healer, I would have been a priest... NOT A FREAKIN PALLY! so NO, I will NOT HEAL YOU or RESPEC FOR IT, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Pally's are great fucking healers though.... just sayin.

How can anyone not like more options?

I don't understand it.

"How would you like your burger today?"
"I'm in the mood for a burger with bacon and a fried egg on it, but hold the veggies."
"Sure thing!"

or

"How would you like your burger today?"
"I want one with no tomatoes, no onions, but with Jalapenos and salsa!"
"TOO FUCKING BAD, YOU GET IT WITH CHEESE AND KETCHUP ONLY!"

I don't enjoy the lack of specialization that comes with certain MMOs and honestly think it's a step backwards in game development. Sure, Aion has Stigmas, but they're not something that is going to completely change the way a class is played. You're not going to see Clerics topping damage in groups, and you're not going to see anyone except Clerics and Chanters healing... ever...

I never played FFXI as I couldn't stand the crazy low resolutions when it came out, but the changing classes thing sounds pretty damn nice. I would have liked to have not had to roll a completely new character to change classes and I'm surprised no one has mentioned this in other threads on other boards when class discussions are brought up. Was there any drawbacks other than just going to said house?

[on a related note, how do you feel about FFXIV?]

I'd like to bring up another 'crap on Aion's day' subject and bring this to the forefront of people's minds:

Healers never get any 'bonus to healing' through gear -EVER.

+Magic Boost only effects offensive spells, and your heals, as you get them, never scale any higher than what your level dictates. (So a fresh level 50 Cleric can jump right into the hardest dungeon in the game and heal just as well as someone who's had their cleric there for months)

Why would you do this Aion?

Don't you want healers to...:

A) ...strive for better gear that contributes to healing? If there's nothing that dictates that a cleric (or Chanter's) heals gain any benefit from gear other than just socketing the shit out of something with +mana stones, why bother getting better gear when it doesn't help with your main purpose in the party?

B)...be able to heal through more situations as damage scales up? Once again if there's not benefit to better gear, how will later encounters be scaled if the healer is forever capped at what they can output?

C)...be able to keep up in PvP. If there no scaling, how the fuck am I supposed to keep up when the people who are doing the damage get better gear? Sure it might be ok now... but what about a little bit down the line when people start getting more and more gear and my heals are stagnant?

I know I'm being harsh here, but seriously... these problems will make players stick to Aion like eggs on a Teflon pan...

^ This doesn't sound right... Heals must progress as damage scaling progresses. Otherwise, it just would not work.

Quoted for troofs, thee game had a great job system, AND also added customization into it by having the ability to swap subjobs, to play all the different flavors of a job. Also I really liked how its was the opposite of most MMOs, which are all about interraction, yet reduce all level gaining to mindless solo grinding. I'd rather hang out with a group of people and get MORE than normal exp for it.

xD I know, sorry, though it was subtle, I said only a healer, and not "a healer" meaning i wanted to get more than only healing out of my job. I have nothing wrong with being a healing class, when I'm that healing class. Back when I played Ragnarok Online (poors some out for a fallen friend) I was a priest.

Anyway, @ michaeljackson

I believe it was said earlier in the thread that in a system like wow, you had the talent trees, PvP, Raid, and Useless. In my admittedly short amount of time there, It looked to me like only one tree was worth playing, because people will spurn you if you try the others. Which was my issue as a paladin, everyone only wanted me to heal. Just IMO.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to FFIV, I'm hoping the job system is the same as 11, and I'm just hoping for something like a male mithra, gender-based race systems are stupid... just as stupid as gender-based job systems.

I kinda enjoyed FFXI's battle system, but it could have been faster.... much faster. In any case, the fact that it was so important to be with a group was an excellent point in the game, alot of MMOs are all about solo grinding, so its nice to get more exp for a group than less.
