Actually, one thing I'm not 100% sure of regarding how people are deciding on alignments: concerning the order/disorder scale of lawful/chaos, is there a particular ruleset being considered, or is it just a general regard/disregard for rules and regulations?

It's pretty subjective. Although reason can be used for why you would put someone in a certain category. Like I think Aliens were put into Neutral Evil for a reason. The maker of the meme probably saw it as, they have no intelligent thought. They are just space creatures attacking what is in their path. Rather than Vader who had the strong law of the Empire to follow. Or Joker who was purposely trying to create a world of chaos and mayhem.
