8WAYRUN.COM Servers Upgraded!

This morning I had our servers upgraded for 8WAYRUN. Naturally, as we get closer to the release of Soulcalibur V, we can expect the number of users on this website to steadily rise, to the point where the website will probably crash on the day of release. I've upgraded our servers in the hopes to stave off the inevitable. And don't kid yourself, its inevitable; even Shoryuken was down during the release of SF4.

Our new VPS plan has 50% more RAM, and you should already feel the website responding a bit "snappier". This new plan is also twice the cost of our old plan, so as traffic dies down after release, I will probably downgrade us back to our original plans... that is unless traffic doesn't die down because Soulcalibur V gets stupid popular! Which would be awesome!

not gonna lie, jaxel, i HATE it. did we ever even come close to overloading on the old server? i'm currently on a friend's computer, but the difference i noticed was immediately obvious and immediately horrid...

what i am referring to is the double underlined "keywords" that make a pup up ad, and that look like hyperlinks until you click them and get a new window popup. even as a premium member i get these hyperlink/ad/spam shit. i can't lie...this feature is one of my most despised things on any forum i visit.

those links mean that

a: i can't idly chill on a forum page while trying to use my shitty laptop scrollbar to read it without getting popups.
b: the effect of piquing curiosity that existing hyperlinks have/had is completely diminished. until now, i'd see a hyperlink in pretty much any post and click it out of curiosity. now, i will automatically ignore 100% of them from now on because i assume they are links.
c: we now look like any 3rd party generic site. 8WR is premier. we have features that other sites dream of. we have namco ties. we have an existing and strong community. those forced link ads cheapen the experience by a ton. i'd rather us be the premier site and lag a bit or donate some cash than have us be on the same page as every damn godaddy forum site on the web.

can it, jaxel. let's discuss and find other ways to generate revenue. let's PLEASE not keep "drag over pop up links". premium or not...that shit is worse than regular popups. they actually interfere with my page by page browsing. let's reconsider. we don't want all the oncoming traffic to come to 8wr and get stuck by popups every time they simply run their mouse over a post. it is VERY dissuading when perusing a web site.

-edit- so i'm at a friend's house on his laptop...maybe it is just a trojan or some sort of adware on his chrome browser? i sure hope it is this PC and not the site. guess i'll post again after i check it out from home. looks like this:...every page...

lobo... can you give me a screenshot? I didn't add any additional ads with the server upgrade.

About half a year ago, I enabled "VigLinks", but they don't ever add "drag over ads". What they do is take EXISTING links to ecommerce websites and automatically append affiliate information into them. For instance, in Hate's "When Worlds Collide" article, he links to psychology of video games book on Amazon, VigLinks automatically made it an affiliate link so we earn revenue on anyone who bought the book using that link.

So it sounds like your friend's PC has a virus.
