Red Ring of Death!!

Hot Rod Dave

"Saucy saucy minx"
So heres my issue. Santa was nice enough to bring me the new guitar hero, left 4 dead and a few other games for my kids. Santa was also nice enough to bring me the red ring of death for my xbox thats only 4 months old. This will be the 5th console that Ive had and I only started playing on a 360 for bout 3 years. My console I bought used at gamestop so the warranty is no good.

Been searching for reasons, fixes, and precautions I can take to prevent this shit from happening again. It looks like its just a matter of time before it WILL happen!! I got the red light on the bottom right quadrant with an e68 code. From what Ive found out, it appears to be a problem with my hard drive, or they said that it could be my fans. I put SC4 on my harddrive specifically to make my xbox not work so hard. and I play SC 99% of the time. I turned off my xbox and turned it back on and everything is fine so far. But I know this will pop up again real soon!

Does anyone have any expereince fixing these problems other than sending it to MS? Does anyone have any good pre-cautionary things I can use to try to slow down this problem since it seems that no matter what its going to happen! Been searching my local "craigs list" and there are a few guys that say they can fix it but Im a little hesitant. SOMEONE HELP ME!!

I'd give one of those local repair dudes a shot... let me know how it goes, I have 2 busted xboxes right now.

The old Towel method works tried and true for at LEAST a few days~hours of working time, until you decide on a solution.

Towel Method:

wrap your ENTIRE 360 in thick towels, so there is no venting and much insulation. Then leave it on, once it get's hot enough, the chipset will reset and you can play it again, temporarily. Sometimes this only works for an hour, sometimes it lasts months. It cannot be predicted, but it is a quick fix.

the towell trick does work. Ive used that one in the past. From what Ive read you would use the towel trick for different error problems. Mine doesnt have that problem. I defiently seems to be hard drive related. i may have figured out how to make a new hard drive. Apparently they use regular laptop harddrives and ive seen quite a few ways to put a new one inside it.

you would think MS would get a handle on this shit by now. How many years has the 360 had this problems? since day 1!! Ive done everything I could think of to prevent this shit. I keep my xbox NOT in my entertainment center. I put games to the hardrive instead of playing from the disc. all 5 xbox's ive had, had 5 different problems. I dont get it. What a piece of shit!! I dont want to go PS3. i dont like playstation. But fuck this is so annoying!!

i feel your pain. i've only had the rrod once in my almost 3 years (read: my warranty is up in less than a month, joy) of owning a 360 but i feel like its going to be bricked again soon. it keeps freezing up and i do everything right (out of entertainment center, well ventilated, etc) like you do. it is very frustrating but its just easiest to bite the bullet and send it in to microsoft while you still have the warranty.
