I'm sorry about your story though, but you're completely spot on with it being a matter of patriarchal society and these "macho" gender roles primitive males tend to display. It's a shame how damaged that guy's self esteem might be now, I hope he can express himself in the future at least :/ Also sucks you didn't get laid but that's a baser issues :P

Some straight men are like this as well. Imho you are better off without a bf, but not everyone agrees with me on this one lol. DONT TAKE DAT SWEET FREEDOM FOR GRANTED.
 
I dunno man, everyone does differ tho. Some people just think it is ideal but if you long for it to much it can also bring a lot of pain and suffering upon yourself. I used to be like this a couple of years back but after awhile I just got tired of waiting on guys all together, so I tried something new. I stayed single, for like a year and then out of the blue someone who I was very compatible with came along. It just takes patience =D
