Take the word relationship, take off relation and make it a verb. To "ship" is to put two people in a relationship. Popular ships include Destiel (Dean and Castiel from Supernatural) and JohnLock (John Watson and Sherlock Holmes from Sherlock). These can be any two people from a series. If your ship actually happens it then "Cannons" (I'm pretty sure). Shipping also creates OTPs, One True Pair(ing) which is the best couple out of all the choices for each character. I think they get cannon because it then sinks another person's "ship" thus utilizing the double-entendre.
 
I wore pink yesterday as a matter of fact.

And it basically is worshipping, but two people and it's in the hopes that with enough worship, god will put the two together.
