SoulCast #27: The FondleCast

is it possible to provide a summary transcript for all the soul cast episodes? I want to listen to it, but holy shit man, each episode is at least 1 hour long. reading through the full transcript will probably only take 1/3 of that amount of time.

especially when there isn't video to go along with the audio like levelupyourgame's morning bread and butter series for tekken characters, it's hard to visualize how everything work together, so reading the transcript will probably be easier.

I appreciate the feedback, but I can already tell you that that's probably not going to happen. First, a transcript (at least the detailed kind of transcript that I think you're asking for) is redundant considering that 99% of what's said on the podcast is already available in text form here on the boards. Hell, some characters have complete guides with far more information than we could ever relay in a podcast. (Think regular Pat.)

There are a few other reasons I could list here that would probably fall under the category "production issues," but I'll spare you those. Suffice it to say, there's a lot on my plate, so spending more time on something that's intended to be more casual and to give beginners a place to start just isn't really in the cards for me.

And a quick comment on corresponding game footage: I considered doing that in the past and even recorded an episode with footage involved, but the uploading and editing time increased ridiculously and I already knew after that one test run that I wouldn't be able to sustain that.

Again, thanks for the feedback and I hope that I don't come off as too dismissive of the idea. It's not that I don't want to, I just don't think I have the time to take on that extra effort. That is, of course, assuming that there isn't some easy way for me to make a transcript, like some program that will read our voices, so to speak, making it so I don't have to do anything, lol.

Oh, and since the episodes are up for everyone to listen to, someone who has listened to them is more than welcome to make such a transcript, if they want. I certainly won't stop them.

I don't know man, crawling through more than 50~60 pages of general discussion, 40 pages of combo discussion, 20 pages of match up list, and individual match up threads is A LOT of work for casuals and newcomers. not to mention there have been quite a few patches; new comers will read through40 pages only to find out that some of those tactics are now useless and they just wasted time trying to learn expired tactics on their own because they haven't posted in the forum and ask the right questions (think TTT2 Lili)

what you have on the audio there is the condensation of 1 year's worth of gameplay refinement. the proper uses of each move and the thought process to formulate strategies are tried and true in tournaments and not polluted by forum advice posts from scrubs like me who might give the wrong info that the pros didn't catch and correct.

it's definitely worth going through the audio, I understand, but everyone is going to write down the notes from the audio themselves anyway, isn't it redundant that everyone has to go through that 1 hour before they can go into practice mode?

I can understand where you're coming from, and, like I said, I don't think a transcript is a bad idea or anything. But, you're essentially requesting me to write a lengthy Q&A in addition to recording the podcast itself, which I just don't have time for. I mean, I have trouble getting in the actual podcasts on a regular 2-week basis, so trying to do more is inviting disaster on myself.

That being said, the podcasts are designed to be listened to in more of a "keep an open mind" casual attitude. Guests are, of course, going to speak as if these strategies and opinions are absolute, but the idea is to give you a place to start and get the creative juices flowing, not an end-all be-all schematic on where to start or what to do. So, the redundancy that you're talking about is an unintended consequence of a certain perspective. While I can certainly acknowledge that it's a deficiency of these episodes, let's be honest: There's a lot that could be done to make these better. Reality is, I don't get paid for these, neither do my guests, so I have to pick and choose and manage my time accordingly.

It would definitely have to be a summary. Transcription takes a long time. To give you some numbers, it takes about 2-3 hours to transcribe a 15 - 20 minute conversation word by word. This is the kind of work you pay people for.
