The Walking Dead Games

So I just started playing these games... uploading to my youtube right now: http://www.youtube.com/user/Jaxelrod

And I really have to question this GOTY stuff. When the game was first coming out, and people were reviewing it, NO ONE was saying it was a "great" game, everyone was saying "good", 8/10 kind of material. Now suddenly everyone is saying GOTY? I just don't see it. I feel that people are more entranced with the IDEA of the game (episodic content, high story telling), rather than the game itself.

The game itself is probably TellTales' best game ever; but that's not saying much since they have been making nothing but utter shit for the past 10 years. But its slow moving and just plods along. If you want to play a GOOD point and click game for this generation, you should be playing Heavy Rain, not this. In Heavy Rain, the choices you make actually do make a difference to the outcome of the game.

This game gives you a semblance of choice, but your choices really don't matter; the differences are minor at best.
Heavy Rain is the Best. Game. Ever. :D Madison Paige was the best!

On the whole "illusion of choice" thing, I'm assuming you hit episode 3's face anvil then? Just curious because it was about that point that my hype cloud really started to dissipate. I checked in on the stream last night and saw you doing the whole "let's clear the fence, oh no Steve got hit by an arrow" debacle, but I have no idea at what point you stopped playing. If it was not this event I'm curious what did it for you?

Heavy Rain is a phenomenal Point-and-Click Adventure that I encourage everyone to play but don't count out the Walking Dead series. The first episode only received "8-out-of-10's" because it was just setting the stage and not much real shit went down. Once you complete episode 3 and finally episode 5 (which definitely didn't "plod" along), you realize that TWD is something truly special. Aside from Heavy Rain, I've never been so emotional after a game experience before. After finishing episode 5, I'd say that this game is closer to the 9-9.5 range and deserving of the GOTY's that it'll get.

What do you mean by your "choices really don't matter"? Every playthrough I make is very different from one another. Episode 5 alone has a shitload of permutations to the point that any little decision can change the outcome of your adventure until the emotional sendoff. For instance, I always brought different people with me in my search for Clementine, which altered the dynamic of the group.

In short, I wish that the game industry would develop more games like TWD and Heavy Rain because we need this sort of innovation and variety in the games we play.

Mmm Heavy rain was ok but in reality there were aspects in heavy rain where I had to tilt my head. For example when madison hooked up with the main character and there really was no chemistry between them that was strong enough for them to do it. I mean that i just me but it did have a charm that made the game pretty awesome. TWD the illusion of choice was there but the story kept me on my toes and I was loving every moment of it xD.

Really? The story kept you on your toes? I thought the story was extremely predictable. People tell me that they cried at the end, but not me, I saw the end coming from a mile away.
