Lets put this way,
Final Fantasy XIII is not only bad because is linear, boring, cliche, leve system is crap, characters are boring wannabes of past games ones, is bad overall because is a Final Fantasy, with any other game name would be a at least nice game, but since it had a name to prove itself is failed to do so and became hated.

Now if they did what they did with the original Devil May Cry, that was not less than based on Resident Evil 3.5, it would be a beloved game, it wouldn't ever been hard, just give another names, or even make a bloody spin off, but when you destroy old concepts to put new ones that makes suspect that were done to make the produce's in game (Not proved but is what people say.) of course everyone that was a fan would hate, gee they even have a great anime about this series.
