I really liked it. Ignore what the dude said about the music. It's actually really good. composed by yuki Kajiura herself which is just under Yoko Kanno in anime composer fame and good works if not right along side her.

but i personally loved the anime. it has some comedy, some drama, some action, and a wonderful plot. and i myself was surprised and happy to see an anime that revolves around a female cast but doesn't bombard the viewers with fan service moments.
Okay cool. :) I personally hate too much fan service so im glad to hear its not that overwhelming. Lol. When I finish Darker than Black season 2, I'll check Mai Hime out.

Ya that review is a joke. Mai-Hime is great, Its one of 24's break out hits that, to me, truly started the Millenniums next generation of anime.

The music is by far one of it's best points, Yuki Kajiura is a goddess among BGM and she dominates this show.

The show has good comedy, romance, slightly ecchi but not over the top , Top of the line animation. I mean it's done by SUNRISE, aka GUNDAM, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, etc... and they are the only company in which their shows have never looked bad. They can have bad shows, but it isn't because of animation quality.
The action is BIG, hugely fantasy and beautiful. The story is OK but the world is awesome and it fills the story out more. Mixed in with all of this is it is TRAGIC. The "rules" behind what they have to go through is sad and it almost made me cry a few times.
It's genre is "Action, Comedy, Drama, Fantasy, Magic, Mecha, Romance, School, Shoujo Ai " throw that in your pipe and smoke it.

This show is also the take off point for Mai-OTOME which is a sequel, kinda, and changes everything about the show yet keeps so much of it the same, really hard to do that. And Otome goes even bigger and has some of the greatest action sequences in any anime i've ever seen.

God damn i like this franchise.
Thanks for the recommendation. I'm sorta new to the anime "scene", only seeing about 8 animes so far. And there's so many more I have to check out. I have a question: I kind of interested in seeing Hellsing. Have you seen it? Because I heard it was very gory. But if I have already seen Elfin Lied,do you think this show is worse in terms of 'violence'?

lol i said 24 breakout, i meant 2004.

I've seen so much anime.........
wanna see a list? http://myanimelist.net/animelist/iwatch2muchanime&status=2&order=0I likst throwing that list around.

Anyway, very few shows are on the same level of Elfen Lied in violence so if you're ever worried another show till top it, it's pretty rare.
Hellsing is pretty good, definitely for it's time. But it's short and has a weird ending.
Also Hellsing ULTIMATE the newer OVA series that's much more violent and has incredible quality to it. I dunno if i'd say it's BETTER than the original but it does go into things the original show didn't so it's interesting.

I'm watching Shiki right now and i'm finding it rather hard to stop myself from watching it all in one sitting. It's probably one of the more interesting vampire animes i've seen for it stays away from the cliches. at least so far because i'm on episode 6 out of twenty-something. I'd like to recommend this anime but i'll finish more of it first.

i'm not necessarily new to the anime scene but i'm pretty specific in what i watch. i don't like the overused and cliche and i want it to catch my interest and be kinda smart. i hated High school of the Dead because of the reeeeally exaggerated fan service. i love the concept of the zombie apocalypse but the fact that it's border line soft core porn really ruins it for me. I loved Black Lagoon because it's centered around an attractive (at least to me) female lead and it really never focused on her "female aspects". it focused on her personality not her looks and i loved that. it's a shame that it's super rare to come across anime like it nowadays.
