Gotta love how physicists dramatize their results as if they had contacted aliens (Although this is big, but not for the reasons people think). I bet that at least half of the people reading the article don't even know what an elementary particle is, let alone the Higgs.

Actually it couldn't be dramatized enough. I think it should get even more attention since it really is the biggest thing we've discovered in the last 30-40 years and probably for at least the next 20 years.
It's partly because it doesn't get the attention it deserves that people do not understand it.
You do not have to understand every detail perfectly or be aware of all equations to grasp the importance of it.

The fact that most people don't understand it is more because of the laziness to pay attention to a more simplified explanation rather than the matter being to complicated.
