Persona 4 Arena

Had the chance to play this at Evo. Here are some of my thoughts on it. Most of you probably know most of the info I'm gonna post but I feel like doing it anyways lol.

---

On the outside, P4:A may look like blazblue and guilty gear clone with persona characters, but it really has it's own identity that sets it apart from the two. The controls are completely different and at first it seems really complicated because A = jab/fast normal, B = fierce/slow normal, c - persona attack 1, d = persona attack 2 and there is no real gatling combo or sequence.
A wierd thing (that I ended up liking) is that every character has the same input for the same type of move. IIRC it goes something like this:
A+B = overhead
B+C = reversal
C+D = throw
I believe there are more but this is all I remember lol.

The other thing I REALLY like is how the game has a focus on meter management: will you do ex specials, supers, buffs, or save it up and use it near death and do an "awakening super"? It's a really cool system and I'm assuming that it will be a big part of the metagame.

I spent most of my time playing as Yukiko and Mitsuru and here are my preliminary thoughts on them:
YUKIKO - As a Lambda player in BB, Yukiko was my first pick as she is the best zoner in the game. She zones people by throwing her fans with B, but they come out as slow, long lasting projectiles with a lot of recovery. She can also shoot some fireballs and use her persona to zone protect her in the air but I found her tools are just really awkard to use. She also has buffs, unblockables, and the ability to heal herself, but I never had the time to actually use them mid match. I think once people get iin the lab with her and do some experimentation she'll make more sense lol. (No Lambda DDDDDDDD spam here).
MITSURU - Think Guile of SF and Jin of BB. Great zoning, long pokes, the ability to freeze people, and charge moves. Feels like a street fighter character more than a BB character really. She is really easy to use and seems to function well in any situation. Not much else to say, I had a blast playing her.

Anyways, I thought the game was really fun. It's definitely built to be an "easy to learn hard to master" game because the combos and inputs are pretty easy to do, but at the same time there will definitely be a lot of to experiment with and figure out; every character is incredibly unique and I can't wait till things like status effects, crossups, persona use/break, and meter management are taken into account.

Get hype guys! This game is gonna be good. =D
