The Legend of Korra

(Spoilers for Episode 10 below)
I really hope you're wrong about the Iroh Jr. thing, but I don't expect you to be proved otherwise. Amon will probably take the city and Iroh Jr. won't be able to defeat him. On another subject, I'm still mourning over the loss of Lin's bending. Never forget!

I'm thinking more along the lines of Iroh Jr. being the Ace. I think his presence will be important in stopping Amon, but I have no expectations for what happens in the battle of the city since it just seems like it can go either way really really easily. I think we'll be seeing that Iroh Jr. is damn good at whatever he does when he's onscreen, but ultimately only steals the spotlight briefly and Korra's gang still does the real dramatic stuff(kinda like all the folks that helped defeat the Fire Nation armies rather than Azula the Firelord himself in Avatar's final season, only with a more unstoppable badass vibe to it).

I figure they're setting up Amon to be defeated and to be replaced with an even more threatening antagonist or like when the solar eclipse wasn't enough to defeat the Fire Nation in Avatar, letting him have his way in the season finale while Korra's gang runs off to train and kick his ass.

Diverging from that a bit, I'm hoping they don't find some miraculous cure to Amon's Touch of Depowerment(TM). It would just seem to cheapen that drama they played up, I think.

inb4 someone says we're all enjoying a kids' show far too much. Fuck you, guy thinking that, fuck you. Cartoons can be awesome too >:D

I'm expecting this to happen, due to the previews of the new episode where Amon is using the Touch of Depowerment(TM) on Korra:

Mmm, I'm thinking it'll be more along the lines of Korra being traumatized without her magicks for a couple episodes and then suddenly goes "fuck you, I'm the goddamn avatar and I still have my magickz because my hundreds of imaginary friends said so." This is assuming what was shown wasn't another dream sequence or Amon gets interrupted or just plain can't do that to the avatar.

It'd be really interesting if he *DID* permanently take away Korra's magicks, but I just don't see that kind of a twist happening. It's one of those things that would reshape the story a little bit too drastically IMO, and I just can't think of a story I've read/seen/heard pull off something quite like that---even the closest I can think of off the top of my head to that isn't quite as significant as the frickin' title character lose everything that lets them really push the story forward.

Gurren Lagann: Kamina's death in the middle of the first season. This wasn't as significant since it was fairly clear form the beginning that Simon was the real protagonist even though they did overplay the "lolol what a loser" card.

My Name is Earl: Earl's coma and him spending an entire season in prison. The writers handled these exceptionally well, I thought. The situations were different, but still managed to capture the same feel the show always had.

Raising Hope: Jimmy finally hooking up with Sabrina. Again, these same writers as from Earl pulled off something amazing in making Sabrina just as crazy as the Chance family.

None of those would be half as significant as Korra losing her majickz though, since without that how can she really move the story along? I'm sure in a novel a sort of "backseat" protagonist could be pulled off well, but in something that's still aimed primarily at a younger audience(FFS it's rated TV-Y7) that would just be a terrible idea and cause too much backlash even if they pulled it off exceptionally well.

...Okay, enough of my mindless ramblings on our second favorite brain-killing form of media xD

Well i think that so far the series has been good.
The characters that i like so far have been Lin, Tenzin, Korra and Asami. Bolin and Mako so far have not impressed me at all. As for Amon, they are doing well in keeping people wondering who he is which so far has been a fun guessing game. A lot of people thought that Amon and Tarrlock are the same person but as seen in Episode 9 they clearly are saying that is not the case. But my mind keeps thinking that it was all a setup.

The Ability that Amon is using is interesting to me as i do not think he is taking away bending as everyone is seeing. What I see is that Amon is suppressing it in a sense where it feels like i has been removed from the benders he has used the ability on. When something happens to you and you can't explain it, you fear it. That is what Amon has been doing. They know that the Avatar can do this but it has to be taught. From what we have seen so far, Aang is the only one who has understood and learned this ability. Now im not saying that others cannot learn it, but from the way they made that power, it seems that only someone with spiritual ties can use it. So Amon could be using something a bit different which makes benders think that their power is lost. Almost like a mind trick where if you think you are sick, you will feel sick type of deal.

Overall, I think it will be interesting on what will happen next. i cant wait to see it.
