New member, Cervantes player... what up!

[01] Neophyte
Hey guys, been playing for a while now, and just got around to making an account here.

This is the first SC that I've been learning on a competitive level. I had SCII for the Gamecube, way before I knew how to play fighting games, and just played Cervantes because I thought he was totally badass. I mean, he is a flying, teleporting, ghost pirate. I'm trying to learn his stuff for real now though, and while I'm only winning half the time online, I'm definitely making progress.

I'm learning a lot through Training Mode and fighting online, but I haven't seen any tourney footage of Cervantes or read any tips from other players. So I'm hoping to see some of those things here, and of course I'll share any tips I have as well.

That's about it for my intro... if you play XBL, I'm sure I'll see you around. My tag is xVigil just like my forum account. I play in the Colosseo a lot, either New York or Chicago.

Cheers!

Welcome to 8WayRun!!
How is it you have eluded us all this time when you've been playing soul calibur since SCII?

Well I didn't start playing fighting games competitively until Street Fighter 4 came out. Eventually I stopped because I got frustrated with the bad netcode of most fighting games (I returned SCIV after a week for this reason). Then I heard this game had nearly flawless netcode, which it does, and I remembered that I always had fun with these games, so I picked this one up and I'm really enjoying it.

I heard about 8wayrun through a live tournament stream run by Team Sp00ky (the tournament was Savage Saturdays #3), and so here I am. haha

Starting out, it's hard. You can't execute some moves properly and combos are too heady to do during real fights. But, you get past that stage after working hard. But, it gets easier. Once you learn what moves to do and what moves not to do from the soul arenas and watch how competitive Cervantes players play, it's a dramatic improvement. Then, after you improve from that and get good, it gets harder again. Enjoy the ride, my friend.

The netcode in this game is incredible, me and yari were just talking about it. I jumped a low on reaction last night, over the internet while playing some guy in germany. And to think so many people had so little faith in project soul when they said they'ed be developing their own netcode in house. I wonder how much of their development time went into it? I mean it's seriously set the new standard I think.

But that gushing asides, welcome to "the new stage of history" and the boards. Good to have you man and I hope you make teleporting, flying, zombie ghost pirates who sire giantess George Dashington impersonator dominatrices everywhere proud.
