Becoming competitive? What does it take to be good at this game?

What does it mean to be competitive? What are some things that competitive people do?
Do they just play games against human opponents over and over,

or do they spend an hour in practice mode, training inputs over and over?

And more importantly, What does it take to be good at this game? For sure, dedication, but what i'm trying to say is what are some ways to get better? (in a way, sorry if this is confusing)

I guess the next best option would be to go online and befriend really good players.
Check out the community matchup thread.
Perhaps you can make new friends that live near you who do enjoy soul calibur competitively.

The only problem is that nobody I know has even heard of soul cal let alone play it lol

Pretty much what neo said. Being competetive is a natural sort of thing. If it doesn't come naturally to you then you shouldn't try to force it but if there's something in you that makes you want to be better than you are and give people who used to stomp on you a run for their money it will kind of build upon itself.

If nobody you know has heard of the game you can check here and see if there's anyone near you who has

And if that's just not an option you can head here and meet some folks online who you can befriend over time:

If you find you're not driven by a burning desire to be the very best like no one ever was then there's nothing wrong with that. You might just want to get good enough to give your friends headaches or put away mashers and that's fine.
