Mike Ross Documentary - follows him on the road to EVO

Honestly, the large rise of these documentaries is disturbing. Mike Ross isn't the first one of these, there are several already. I say its disturbing because... well, its a guy playing a video game for half a year. Engaging television.

I have not seen this one yet, but I will probably watch it tonight. I am curious about your point of view though Jaxel. What do you find disturbing about these types of documentaries? Is it that you believe that watching someone work their way up to a big tournament like EVO is inherently boring, because ultimately it amounts spending an hour and a half just watching a guy play video games? Or do you find it disturbing because it glorifies the act of an individual, or individuals, dedicating such a considerable chunk of their lives to playing video games? Your post could conceivably be read either way, so I am wondering what angle you are approaching it from.

I'm sorry, but high-level gaming is hardly a reason for a documentary to be made. At CEO, I sat through nearly two hours of boring, annoying, and downright stupid film about Justin Wong. Sure, he's a damn good player. Sure, he's been through some tough times in his gaming career... but I don't care. Its not something I care to watch, and by the looks on many other people's faces, I wasn't the only one who wished I had spent those two hours playing Soul Calibur like I had gone there for.

I'm sure some people actually enjoy watching those films, but oh well. I want my two hours back.
