PSN DOWN WTF?!1

Well, he did violate the law by creating that device, and the device itself was meant to do one thing, which we all know. Kind of like serial/key generators for pirated programs, they "could" be used for piracy but overall they are illegal because the DMCA prohibits it.

The way I understand it, Sony had the right to do what they did. Somone violated the law by hacking their hardware, they had the right to sue him and defend their business. They profit from the fact that PS3 hasn't been "pirated" yet (to a large extent anyways) I also read more about the IP collecting and it appears they did that to prove that he distributed the hack and to resolve the issue of where to sue him and they had no intention of suing people who visited his website or downloaded jailbreak, only the ones who will redistribute it.

So after realizng that I can't get any online games in I decided to learn how to do the "running man" and I can now do said dance. Next up I get a rope and hang myself... a pinata.

again, it is a privacy thing, not piracy. really, only americans could be affected. the way our court system here works is that they always go by previous precedents. if sony is able to get a court order to obtain IP addresses, then other media companies will likely be able to do the same from sites like isohunt.com and thepiratebay. in a way this does loop back to piracy, but not directly.

there is also a very real threat that if they succeed, sony will bring legal action against people they trace by IP. the idea is that no private company should ever be able to monitor our web browsing, or gain access to records of it. it opens the doorway to specifically targeted advertising, embarrassing exposures of public figure heads and many other things that are violations of our privacy rights.

it bothers me that everyone thinks it is all about sony not wanting us to play burned games. it is a first and fourth amendment issue. anon is acting to protect our rights. they are not concerned with linux or ISOs or PSN or any of that shit. they are concerned with corporations gaining access to and ability to search our browsing history.

If anything, Anon should be attacking the US court then, since it's obviously their decision whether Sony gets access to the IPs or not. Surely it's not illegal to sue and ask for something. Especially not in the US, the most sue-happy people of all.

Sony hasn't done anything illegal. Anon has. Their public threats and skewed views of freedom are comparable to terrorists. Not something I'd be proud of supporting.
