I'm in a ranting mood... and i feel like this is keeping me from my sleep so i'm going to say this here..

Well this guy has been at the helm since Soul Calibur II. To judge whether he's fucked up or he knows what he's doing yet is something you can do already. But he came into things as a fan. (He said in an interview his favorite characters were X and Sophi. X was his main in fact.) If he's actually interested in what we as other fans have to say, then I commend the man. Even if most people and ergo of the fans are idiots. If he's just leading us on I can't say. At some point though he's going to have to tell some of the people they can't have what they want. That's just reality. If someone says "make the game more like streetfighter everyone gets fireballs" he's going to have to shake his head and say "No, you're a retard." So I think his vision does come into play somewhere. It's in the editorial that goes on in his mind, about what suggestions he's willing to take and what suggestions he's going to ignore. There's some level of appeal and repulsion any suggestion will give him. For all we know he'll only actually listen to people who tell him what he wants to hear and in that way "take" plenty of "suggestions". Who knows? If some guy says "Give the girls tits as big as volvos" he may just do that because he's always wanted to anyways.

As for people telling you "Shut up and take what I give you or get out". It happens more often than not doesn't it? How many times have I sat down to somebody's vision and thought "gee man. I wish they didn't think I was lower than a bacteria and took a suggestion here. If they just fixed this thing the game would be that much better." Then how many times have you heard the same thing in 20 reviews? Sometimes vision clouds us in our perspective. A little outside input is a good thing.

gj, you know you my boy and all.. but you might want to edit that post of yours a bit.. he's not been at the helm since soul calibur 2.

do you see Daishi Odashima anywhere in those credits?

take special note of the producers... and director seats..

shhh... i know.. i know. i give you a sympathetic pat on the shoulder. these japanese people's names.. they all sound the same.

Whoever thought that Ivy should be the sex symbol of the Soul Series should be shot. Everyone knows that was always Taki's spot since Soul Blade.

Blah. That's twice now. I gotta get a fact checker. But that's what you're here for, to troll me a little when I make mistakes. Otherwise flawless post. Beautiful post. Worthy of a press release and you zero right in on my racism. All right, I know what you want. Put another point on the board man. Though that was the result of me not remembering the interview right. As if it makes it any better to make a different mistake. Yeah I feel dumb. I feel real dumb. Looking back over the same interview, he joined the team since III and directed IV. So I guess you can still gauge him by IV. Wasn't really the point of my post though. Main point was outside input is usually a good thing. Like how oh wait. I meant to do that. Yeah. Clearly it was a dramatic illustration intended to showcase how outside input can help us all out. Yeah.... sure. Sure....

But seriously, unintentional case in point. If I'd had bounced this post off somebody who caught that it would have been a better post. I got so caught up in what I wanted to say, I missed something important. Now it's in the bargain bin. It's getting a 65 on meta critic. People are only reading it for the gamer score. It's done like Kane and Lynch. Done.

HA! John you sir.. are awesome. know that you have a place to crash if you're ever in Atlanta (when i'm there) or in Korea (when i'm here). besides, since you're following me now, i got to take care of my minions. so since we're a duo.. i'll be megamind... and you be minion. :)

that'll work.

having said that. You missed the point of my post entirely. I didn't want to say nothing because what you wrote was gorgeous. i mean brilliant literature.. up there with Hank moody... "fuckin and punchin". what you know about it?

my post wasn't all about what you said.. in fact.. reread my post you'll notice:

"you know.. it's great that things like twitter can give you direct access to these developers but it brings up an interesting thought... is there ever a line drawn in which they say "fuck it, you'll have to either follow my vision of this game or fuck off", or do they acquiesce to the basic demands of the fans. and by basic I mean the overall consensus of what the fans want in the game. which then brings up a question on my mind.. does this make us fans of the franchise? or fans of the developer?"

in other words, where is the line drawn if any? how far does someone go with taking other people's advice versus coming up with your own? which then follows up with the question for us as the fans.. are we fans of the developer who care about his design choices or are we fans of the franchise who care nothing about how the game is made so long as there is another game in said franchise?

it's almost like we're doing the work for him. perfect for the advertising because the overall consensus of what we want in the game, will be in the game. ergo, instant revenue.

if i was to use an analogy, we'll use my field of work.

if a client of mine hires me for an animation. and he basically tells me everything he wants.. then i know what he wants, I give it to him exactly the way he wants it. then he's happy. I get paid. que no? but say that same client gives me a very general idea of what he wants. In other words, he has an idea of what he wants but lacks clear vision, so he hires me to bring his idea to life through my vision. But instead of coming up with my own vision, i continually come up to meet his approval. bring everything to him to see if this is what he wants. if he hired me for me to bring his idea to life through my ideas, why is he constantly being bothered by me to see what he thinks? It gives off the feel that I don't know what I'm doing, so therefore, direct me on what to do next. there's nothing wrong with either way.. it's just in the latter, he didn't hire me for his vision. he hired me for mine.

same with this little fucker. by asking other people what they want in a game... it's sort of like creating a check list. is this in the game? is that in the game? well we'll definitely see a return now. can't lose! but at the same time, it gives off the impression at least to me, that he doesn't know what the fuck he's doing or what he even wants in the game. so he comes to us, to tell him what should make up the next soul calibur. so my question is this..

if there's any line drawn at all where is it drawn between someone's own idea vs the masses?

which brings me to why i can respect someone's own vision far more then someone who listens to other people to find what they want.

make sense?

the other question is a whole other issue entirely.. best to take care of one before the other.

work smart. not hard.

madnis. one of the realest muh fuckers you'll meet on these here boards.
