Lol 50$ a year to rent some PSN games? They all disappear if your subscription runs out.

Hilariously enough, if you subscribe on Plus, it auto renews(just like old XBL used to)from your PSN wallet(PSN's better version of MS points, since Sony does acknowledge actual cash amounts)but if nothing is in it(or not enough) it'll rip that shit straight from the credit card tied to the account.

Not a fan of that shit.

I still have no idea what Playstation Plus fully entitles you to.

Does it make the overall online service more on the same league as LIVE and it's online functions (ie forming parties and party chat)?

I don't see much of a reason to get it ATM mainly because I barely ever buy anything from the PSN store.

It, at the end of the day entitles you to various discounts on items in the PSN store and some free themes, avatars, a free game. But if you were to decide you don't want the service anymore, from what I understand. The shit you bought while under Plus, disappears.

Only the games you get for free disappear if your subscription expires. Plus also gives discounts to buy games, those games you get to keep (you can also choose to buy any game to keep it permanently). Think of it this way, its $50 a year to rent PSN games. In the first month alone, you are getting $87 in savings (according to Kotaku's analysis), so it has already paid for itself.

The subscription model is no different from any other subscription model. For instance, I have a Zune. With the Zune Pass subscription, I can download for free any song in the Zune Pass model. So I can download ten thousand songs, and only pay $15 a month, but if my subscription lapses, I lose the rights to all the music. $10,000, or $15 a month?

So how is this better or even different than XBL?

You don't get anything free from XBL Gold. You simply get the ability to play games online. PSN already gives this feature to you for free. PSN+ gives you free games and other small features. Like I said before, you are already getting $87 in savings for ONE month of PSN+ which only costs about $4.

Sony has subscriptions on the PSN store, and NONE of them have ever auto renewed without prior knowledge. Yes, you can set up PSN+ to auto-renew, but it does not do so by default.

And no, I do not have PSN+, I prefer to own my games. Besides, most of the stuff they are already giving for free, I already have.

The European Version from what I hear offers Little Big Planet as a FREE download (that you keep!) if you pre order. As well if you choose to resubscribe after quitting you will be reentitled to all your past downloads and available items. This Plus thing isn't for everyone, but it gives such a bargain for a very cheap price ($50 a year is nothing). Also keep into account if you don't like the free downloads and savings now, they updates every month.

there's also a high likelihood future updates will add more and more features and generally being an early subscriber can be rewarding in these circumstances.
