For those of you complaining about ROTF...
Look... Bay did good with what he had to work with. The whole cartoon series is nothing but one big toy ad in itself. The only reason Transformers existed was to sell the toys. And at what point in the cartoon series are you actually going to get any kind of movie material? Getting an actual movie plot is work in and of itself. Bay had to invent a reason for the Decepticons to stay around. They want something...they need something. That thirst is what keeps them coming back.
Nothing will beat the epicness of the first. But if you look back at the styles you might see something you missed. I think the action in this movie was better due to the fact that you saw more of it. In the first movie you could get lost under the transformers fighting. Bay did a better job of showing you more in this one.
Also...I think he established that without Prime the Autobots are screwed.
At least, someone here knows. I agree and I think that Bay did a good job, an excellent job. The plot in the cartoon was seeking for a new energy source to sustain the life in their planet. The Decepticons escaped from Cybertron to search the nearest solar system, no matter the consequences. The Autobots started to chase them. They both crashed on earth in "?0,000bc." Millions of years later, in the Present time, a machine goes out from their ships to find compatible technology to revive them. The Decepticons, they now try to produce Energon by consuming Earth's natural resources and destroying it.
In RotF, this plot is very much the same. The only difference is that the scale and the stakes are higher, there was more at risk with less process to accomplish. Transformers lost their planet, all Autobots and Decepticons went to search for the nearest solar system. Only this time, Suns were the source requiered to produce Energon. The war between Autobots and Decepticons on earth is because of us. The Decepticon don't care if a Sun is supporting life on a planet. But the Autobots (Primes) as Optimus said; are capable of great compassion. The Primes were Transformers whom learned to live and appreciated life at the same time. The rest of the Transformers were just as the Decepticons are; they only consumed and consumed. The Primes taught other Transformers how to carry out life without emptying all the resources around them.
By the time that many Transformers were converted into Autobots, it was (perhaps) too late for the survival in Cybertron. That's when the Prime's rule was enforced; "Search new Suns, live from them, but never consume from a Sun that was already sustaining life in a planet." that is the law of the Primes.
Remember the "All Spark?" Whenever it gives life, it was always a hostile life form. This has two reasons:
1. Aggressiveness and consuming is their 1st nature as living beings.
2. In the first movie it was said that NBE-1 (Megatron) was back engineered to produce earth's current technology. Nearly all technological equipment on Earth can be an offspring of Megatron.
But first, it is very important to understand what a Transformer is. A Transformer is a life form with high density control over their atoms, capable of moving nearly every atom in their bodies at will. Humans can only move certain groups of atoms which compose our arms, leg, etc. But Transformers have a higher control. I'm going to skip the details (you may think: meh, booooring). What the "All Spark" does is that it introduces the state of dream that atoms go through to produce the life we know, into mater that's capable of sustaining the necessary condition to be animated.
Anyway, all of the above should give a clear idea of how this movie of Transformers indirectly teaches us to appreciate life, and the world is like it is now because we are the current Decepticons; killing the planet away. If we keep living like the Decepticons, earth will share the same fate as Cybertron. But, if all Human kind were to follow the good example of the Primes, we could live in a more healthy and peaceful world. Optimus is completely committed to sacrifice himself before ending the lives of others to save his own, even in the face of extinction.
All that and more is what I saw in this movie. The good messages are there, only hidden on plain sight.
Turning off your brain to watch this movie is a big mistake. Being more appreciative and less critical is a very helpful thing in everyday life situation. If someone does bad to you, never return bad to them.
