the Definition of a nerd/geek

Got a question how come ppl consider pro gamers nerds? Is this really true? Are these ppl being ignorant?

Hmm... that's a good guestion. I'm guessing you mean "pro gamer" as someone who makes most of their yearly income from playing in tournaments and shit like that. If that is the case, most of what these "pro gamers" are going to talk about/surround themselves with, would be video games. Then you have people in the real world that work 40 hours a week and do things outside of just playing games and have real world things to talk about and do.(not saying pro gamers dont, but far less) So if they see these "pros" in the real world talking non-stop about games or someone asks what they do for a living and the answer is, "I play video games." It's pretty easy to classify them as nerds, and most people would be right.

I'm talking about any gamers who's skill level is that of a pro in any competitive game whether they earn an income or not.

Then I'm pretty sure that ppl who talk about specific sports, certain academics, music etc. are considered nerds as well.

I'm a little skeptical of that quote "I play video games". If a person were to ask what I do for a living and I say "I draw", "I study Physics", "I go fishing", "I make clothes" etc wouldn't I also be considered a nerd cuz it sounds as though I'm hardcore into these certain things?
