Well I understand that sex sells these days and if a company wants something to sell, they might have to throw in fan service (I.E. The girls of the Dead or Alive fighting series, not the volleyball game). But yeah, my question is that if you saw or heard of a game that didn't have women that were scantily clad/slutty/etc, would you still play the game?

I only ask because I want to one day open up my own game company that would specialize in making Adventure, Platform, and fighting games as well as be a character designer but I wouldn't use those kinds of women to get people to buy the game. I mean, I may include 1 or 2 chracters that follow that archetype so there would be variety but yeah... After seeing how SCIV was perceived, those characters are essential (I mean, almost all the females in SCIV had some sort of breast upgrade and wore more of those archetype outfits excluding Talim, Xianghua & Hilde). And how most notably, some people are put off that Ivy isn't wearing an outfit that's on par with her SCIV 1P look lol.

Anyway, thoughts...? All opinions are welcome. :)

I registered specifically to respond to this post.

I'm very tired of people associating exposure of the female body with promiscuity (a.k.a. sluttiness). It's crazy.
Is Rock a slut? Astaroth? Maxi with his bishonen bare chest? Algol? Of course not...they're MEN. A "slut" is something only women can be, apparently...

I'd advise people to take a step back and make sure their "good intentions" aren't actually rooted in another type of sexism that's equally as troubling as anything DOA Xtreme Volleyball ever did.

Seriously?

HELLLLLLLLLLLL YEAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

But seriously, slutiness only goes but so far, and no where near far enough to carry a shitty game. Also, people (guys) overreact to the sexual content a game may have while being numb to the amount of violence a game has. It's ok to beat the crap out of someone with sharp objects, but god forbid if one of those characters happens to be a female with large tits wearing something skimpy.

Sex = bad
Violence = ok

One of the problems with video games is that their developers seem to think that all gamers are 17 year-old (heterosexual male) tools who would never consider buying a game without massive, jiggling breasts in it. No one seems to think that their game would be fine without women dressed in bikinis and shaking their goods.

A lot of people would buy games without gratuitous amounts of fanservice. I personally think it cheapens the game, and these ridiculously sexualized portrayals of women are a problem in the industry.

I'll add that it's possible to show off hotness without objectifying women. For example:
