now.. i know. i know... this is a game forum, and animation is the last thing to expect here.. but I figured.. why not? We have an art thing... this isn't necessarily for fan art either.

this is for those who are looking to get into the animation industry. I know I knew animation was the career for me since i played tekken 3 back in the day, so who knows? maybe soul calibur inspired others to get into animation.

so.. this thread is for those people who want to learn about animation. be it classical (hand drawn) or 3d animation.

also because part of the fun of learning animation is studying movement.. i figured this would be a fun place to put those kinds of videos.. where you see an interesting gesture/walk/act etc.. or even down right awesome animation. this would be the place for it as well as critiques and such for those wanting to participate in such.

anyway.. lesson 1...

draw. draw lots! and don't stop drawing until your fingers bleed... bwahahah.. kidding. but yeah. get to know form by studying it. best way to study form is to draw it out as it enables you to study what you see.

I've been animating for a couple of years nowand people love the videos i upload on my YouTube channel. I use a program called "Anime Studio Pro 7".

Here's my channel: www.youtube.com/user/HogisGuy

I don't teach people the program or anything since i suck at teaching.

Not bad, guy. not bad at all. I might make a few recommendations here and there but overall, pretty fun stuff. keep it up, guy.

Nice topic. I was always interested in animation but I haven't really done much about it until recently. I like anime-style-like animation most but the problem is, it's mostly hand drawn animated (not my type of thing lol, also it's way too much time consuming for just 1 person) and/or mixed with 3D.

After watching the remakes of Evangelion I was motivated to create something of my own, set in post-apocalyptic world. I only use AE so it's kinda limited when it comes to character animation though...that's a problematic thing for me cause I didn't want it to look 2D. I tired my best to make it look less flat and more 3D like and I was able to create a head in "3D" (the rest is work in progress xD) And of course, tons of various filters to cover up lots of bad looking things ;)

So this is what I was able to do before my AE trial expired:

There was a time I was interested in animation. It was around the time that Quake 2 was out. I had modeled me a grim reaper torso ala "the frighteners" and was working on the animations in a quake modeler (was it milkshop? Qmodel? I forget.) In any event, the darned thing could only do by hand vertice manipulation animation. Needless to say this got pretty damned tiresome pretty damned fast and I started looking into more complex methods. I got a copy of bryce 3d from my friend Sebastion (or was it Solomon who gave it to me? Well one of them) and then I figured I would be off and running with the big boys. There were only a couple of problems. One was I had no idea how to use the thing and the other was I couldn't figure out how to attach or manipulate "bones". I set that down after a couple days of trying and said I'd get back to it. Never did. Wish this thread was around then. Nice work so far guys.

I've thought about looking into it from time to time, but the programs... they tend to cost a fortune for a hobby.
