Tekken Hybrid

Metallix

[06] Combatant
A friend from our local SC4 league brought Tekken Hybrid for us to see. From what I saw and remember a couple of weeks ago. The game has these features:

Tekken Hybrid
Tekken Tag (Remastered)
(Preview of) Tekken Tag 2
Tekken 3D movie (will edit this once I find out the name of the film)
Tekken Hybrid art book (if you got the CE of this)
Tekken Hybrid OST

I was curious to hear players opinions and ratings on this new game.

I bought it pretty much exclusively for Tekken Tag HD. I was unfortunate enough to buy a PS3 after they phased backwards compatibility out so it was one of my only options to play it. Tekken Tag 2s demo was a nice bonus but that game already makes my head hurt. As far as the movie, I didn't watch it and most likely never will.

Tekken Tag HD actually looks pretty damn good for how old it is. Solid 1080p 60 frames and the character models look great at all times. You'll notice backgrounds that got a little less love for sure though. All FMVs in the game are rendered in the old PS2's native resolution (and 4:3 at that). Nothing that honestly detracts from how solid the game is and how well they updated it. And yes, Tekken Bowl is still rad as fuck.

Tekken Tag 2's demo includes four characters (Devil Jin, Devil Kaz, Xiaoyu, and Alisa), four stages, a five stage arcade mode, and a model viewer. There are trophies to acquire such as beating arcade mode fifteen times but I don't think anyone actually cares. The new tag system is really really confusing but fun to use if you can get the muscle memory down and the whole basic concept. I don't know if the demo sold me on TTT2 as much as drove me away from how much they injected into the game to make it more difficult. Also, the new Devil designs are fucking awful.

I was fortunate enough to play Tag 2 via hybrid at an offline session in Birmingham last weekend:
First of all, DVJ and DVK are both designed to look like they do in the movie that comes with it, but you can play them in more conventional attire. Secondly, the tag system, contrary to the above post - which I completely disagree with is very easy to understand, user friendly and adds new depth to the game. After a few games, I had no problem whatsoever in handling the new system and the game itself is a dramatic improvement from BR, though DR will take some beating imho. As for gameplay, movement has been fixed FINALLY - honestly, the system is a total dream, really liked it. Overall, the game adds more depth without difficulty (It rewards you for thinking I guess) and plays in a much better way, totally hyped for TTT2 now. =D

I am so excited about this game! I so hope I get it for a Christmas gift this year. :D My local league might do TTT2 tourneys once folks get copies of the game. Are there any confirmations of the roster lineup for TTT2?

This is a look at the character select.

And I just found out that the Devil designs are exclusive to the demo (thank god). I'm sure once I get used to the tag crash/tag assault system I'll warm to it. I haven't played Tekken in a tournament setting since Tekken 4: Laser Scraper Edition so the whole bound system is new to me.
