Can I use PS3 sticks for PS2 games when playing on a backwards compatible PS3?

I believe that if the ps3 stick has the "officially licensed by Sony" symbol on the box it will work for PS2 games played on a PS3.
So things like Hori arcade sticks will work for that, and if I remember correctly I believe Cthulhu PCB boards can be used for PS2 games.
