New (sort of) to Soul Calibur

[08] Mercenary
Hi there, my previous experiences with SC are just some old training and versus games back in the day of the very first one Soul Calibur on the DC. Other than that I've played only for few hours the third installment of the series but with little to no interest in the game (at the time).

I've always been a Tekken and SF player as far as fighting games is concerned, but these two franchise are growing a bit tiresome on me, so I've been trying to give a chance to get into SC but, again, I'm really confused on some game mechanics. Basically I'm looking for a newbie tutorial, that covers everything, or at least the basic gameplay of the series, in order to enjoy the game.

Thanks

What exactly are you having problems with

Mainly spacing and things like "what do I do when I'm floored if I don't want to get launched"

Don't know if you're familiar with the backstep/step cancel of Tekken, because I feel a lot heavier with my char in SC. It feels more 3D and I'm a bit struggling

And thanks to WuHT, that's exactly what I was searching ^_^

To bakstep effectively it's not a double input like in other games or quickstepping. Just tap back and your character will backstep. However some characters have better backsteps than others. (Aeon and Nightmare being at the top of the list)

And if you don't want to get launched on the ground, just block. Simple as that. Using things on wakeup is generally a pretty bad idea in this game. (Aside from CE's. Dat delicious invincibility)
