Greetings, and character help

Greetings, 8wr community! I'm basically a casual player with the aim of improving as much as possible, so I decided it was a good idea to stop lurking and come out of my shell :3

I've been playing SC5 online for a while now, and I think I'm getting a good grip of the fundamentals, but I'm running into the same problem I have with every fighting game I play; character selection. Basically, I like lots of different play styles, so I have trouble just settling on one, but I'd really like to actually pick a main and learn them inside and out for once. I just always have trouble zeroing in on a single character because I worry if I'm actually playing X character to their strengths. It seems to be hard to find basic information on character playstyles for any fighting game, really.

So what I think I'm looking for in a character is a focus on spacing/zoning and playing the neutral game, possibly with some offensive muscle to flex when the opportunity presents itself, as opposed to straight out rushdown(I.E. I don't necessarily need all-out constant offense, but I really love oki). Is there a character(s) that excels at this? Is this even a viable playstyle in this game or am I too naive? I've played offensively some and I find it pretty enjoyable in SC5, but I feel like I'm too whimsical, I guess, for true rushdown. I seem to end up playing passive-aggressively most of the time, if that even makes sense.

Any suggestions? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, and I apologize for the wall of text XD

Try Astaroth or Mitsurugi.

Astaroth's got a pretty good mid-long range game and he can play aggressively. Mitsurugi has an insane wakeup game and can be played differently. He can space and poke his opponents to death if you wanted to play him in that manner.

Thanks, you two, I appreciate it.

To be honest, I've had my eye on Mitsurugi already, but I didn't name any names so as to get unbiased opinions :3 Also, my fighting game senses are as of yet unrefined, so I didn't want to blunder into learning a character with a misconception of how they are played.

I shall most likely be putting some serious effort into Mitsurugi, now.
