Astaroth and Viola Announced at TGS

Viola looks like the first character I'll try out, if Mina doesn't make it into the game. I'm hoping she gets some nice funky orb attacks though.

I doubt you'll get hit by 2nd hit of string. If you JG 1st hit, you have reduced recovery, so you'll hold G and G 2nd hit. What I'm concerned about is people having the reflexes to G the 1st hit of a BB, then JG the 2nd hit every time. This means strings without mixups could become punishment...

    Kayane's Hands-on Impressions of SC5

The impression I got is a failed double step leaves you at disadvantage, and failed+attack at punishable, so I think the mechanic balances out, it may be an easier, predictive, riskier way to punish BB spam then JG, which is reactive but less rewarding. It really seems like they're cribbing...

    Kayane's Video Interview with Tago-san!

32 slots will include some non-character slots like possibly random and CAS, and the guest character. So actual roster will likely be a little lower (guessing 29) I am glad to see that Namco does get it in terms of fixing things. This gives me faith that even if mechanics aren't entirely what...

    Kayane's Hands-on Impressions of SC5

Ah, my worry with JG is that it will have the opposite effect of what is intended. I remember being told in SF3, in order you compete, before you did a normal you had to tap forward then down or you were "doing it wrong". I don't want that stuff to come into SC, a series I consider "mostly...

    Kayane's Hands-on Impressions of SC5

Namco has made their decision- we've all pointed out the good and bad effects- all we can do now is wait, and hope they're willing to change things if they don't work out. These are big, risky changes.

Define minimalism. My main concern is that this new system will force the execution level of the game up significantly, especially online, for no strategic benefit. On top of that, two of the big appeals of the SC series in the US are a) It's an easier series execution-wise then any other...

    Kayane's Hands-on Impressions of SC5

I felt like I was coming on a bit too strong with some of my comments, especially on Twitter. It's hard to convey things in 140 characters, especially without kanji. I do agree with you entirely that mindlessly stringing moves together should be punished easily. I just think we already have all...

    Kayane's Hands-on Impressions of SC5

On the CE's- I'm not too worried about that stuff right now- Character balance is much, much easier to fix then system problems. If you get the system right, a good game will come from it. It's very hard to make a good game from a bad system. I'm also not worried about the team not learning...

    Kayane's Hands-on Impressions of SC5

What I was asking about was the other way around- on a BB, could you guard the 1st B, then JG the 2nd (As an example) Or to put it another way: can you JG from blockstun?

    Kayane's Hands-on Impressions of SC5

If there are sufficient mixups to punish JG attempts, such as risky moves that execute faster then the safe ones, or G-cancels, then JG shouldn't be overpowered, unless you can "red-parry" JG. Note: not being overpowered is not sufficient for me to like a new mechanic.

If the new GI was an all-levels block, this would be a very good spot to use it for. Also, would a reversal like Cervy's counter it?

    Kayane's Hands-on Impressions of SC5

The problem is why you think something is wrong or problematic is hard to explain in 140 characters. As for the "whining", the best way for the developers to get the information that the natives are worried/restless is by being loud. You don't have to be rude though. I tried to word what I...

    Kayane's Hands-on Impressions of SC5

3d fighters are about frame knowledge at their fundamental level. JG throws that out the window and adds a huge layer of randomness. It will also destroy online play entirely, and that needs to be a consideration also. If lag messes up your JG's, and you're competitive, would you even bother...

    Kayane's Hands-on Impressions of SC5

I'm starting to think that JG may not be gamebreaking, barring any option selects. What it may do is force some altering of staples, instead of just using BB, you may have to use AA or AB or 2K or throw. As long as characters have sufficiently varied tools, that won't be a problem. Movesets...

    Kayane's Hands-on Impressions of SC5

I don't think the whiffing moves at long range will be a problem. You're still whiffing at range, which is punishable, and usually pretty beefily. This will make sitting on leads harder, which I don't think is a bad thing.

    Kayane's Hands-on Impressions of SC5

I'm actually ok with the new GI, as a new mechanic. For the cost of meter, you get a way out of mixups, though you can get baited and thrown/ maybe unblockable/delayed move . That's fair. I'd rather see traditional GI's return in place of JG, which has so much potential for abuse/problems, in...

    Kayane's Hands-on Impressions of SC5

this game is screaming right now for system direction. I'm just afraid to ask for it since it could split the community.

    Kayane's Hands-on Impressions of SC5

It really seems like they're trying to make this game as much about execution and random stuff as possible. The Armor Breaks being random really sounds bad. I flat out am going to say I don't like the way this is looking right now.
