Long story short a kid had spent a good 20 minutes or so wandering around the shop with one, on a much longer string. I told him he'd have to wind the string up as much as possible or carry it as it presented a clear tripping hazard. He did for a while and then clearly though "nah carrying this somewhat scary inflatable real-comfort-of-a-pet replacement device is too much" and went back to his old ways.
